I know it's a little early for a GDT, but I'm getting really excited for this two game set. Besides, news for these two games will start coming in soon.

Yeah I'm pretty stoked that I'll be able to watch the game on Sportsnet this Saturday (err.. well the second game, I mean). I'm praying to the hockey gods that I don't get called into work or the giant tree out back doesn't crash down and destroy the power line attached to my house. :>

This will be a good series. Wolves are 3-0-0, Heat are 2-0-0.

Also the Wolves lineup has looked like this:

Sterling- Ebbett/Longpre- Haydar
Sweatt- Schroeder- Kassian
Rodin- Pinizzotto- Gordon
Desbiens- Mallet/Friesen- Miller
(Spares: Schneider, Matson, Friesen...)

Connauton- Tanev
Joslin- Mullen/Miskovic
Andersson- Matheson
(Spares: Hunt/Miskovic)

Lack/Climie

I don't know about anyone else, but I see alot of toughness in that lineup with Kassian, Pinizzotto, and Desbiens. It'll be interesting to see how Ward does his matchups. Bouma and Aliu have traditionally been put up against the other team's scoring lines (Schultz's line for Peoria). So, do you put Bouma and Aliu against Longpre/Haydar/Sterling line or do you put them against the Kassian line to try and match Kassian's toughness?

Ward has made sure all of the Heat players are defensively capable, but some have a bit more defensive ability than others. Reinhart is also a guy that can be a (hate to say it) Kesler type two-way shut down centre against one of the scoring lines.

EDIT - LickTheEnvolope, I'm not too familiar with the Wolves' defense outside of Tanev and Connauton. How would you describe Chicago's defense? Shut down, simple defensive play like the Heat, or a bit more of an offensive flair/join the rush type?

Unfortunately, Sportsnet doesn't show on cable in Australia. Unless they stream it online?

The individual game passes aren't THAT ridiculous... if you're willing to fly to Sydney, you can watch them at my place haha

Damnit. I saw this thread this morning, and I've been excited all day long for tonight's game...

Of course, I didn't bother to open it to see that this GDT is actually tomorrow's GDT...

Some info on the goalie situation from Dan Kinvig: http://www.abbynews.com/sports/heat/news/174800811.html

Quote:
The Heat bench boss said he'll "more than likely" go with Taylor vs. Chicago on Friday, but wouldn't commit to it entirely.

The whole situation is awkward on the face of it, but Ward said that since the decision-making process is based entirely on merit, it makes things rather straightforward.

"When you get down to merit, you get into 'Are you making as many saves as the other guy?'" Ward said. "They know.

"We had one guy who was just absolutely terrible on Monday (in practice), absolutely terrible. So then it becomes very easy. The order can shift."
Also according to the article, Byron and Nemisz did not practice on Wednesday.

This one week break between games sucks. Is this typical of AHL scheduling?

Should be a great game with two undefeated teams going head to head. What else can you ask for?

Not sure, but if Danny is the starter (which is very likely), we'll see who the backup is and the one sitting in the stands will be the terrible goalie.

Yep, pretty much. That's the downfall of being over 2500km from the next closest AHL team.

This has me worried it's Irving. I really thought he'd be the defacto backup this year (if there was a season). He really had to make a statement this year, but looks like he probably has played his last season for the Flames/Abby unless he really turns things around. Makes the pickup of Ramo in the Cammalleri trade all that more important.
