Haven't looked at this thread in awhile, just checked out the last few pages. LOVE the majority of the designs. I'm kind of old school (RE: 80's-90's era designs), so I'm happy to see a return to masks celebrating mostly the city they're playing in, or the franchise name.
In the previous decade, I felt most NHL goalie masks celebrated themselves too much, with designs of personal things they like (e.g. Eddie from Iron Maiden, or a bucking bronco on a Habs mask of all things), and way too busy. So I'm glad to see all these newer ones focusing on simpler designs, and back to celebrating the team/city they play in, not themselves.
PS- Enroth, Vasilevskiy, Kuemper, and Lack's are gorgeous.
When the NHL resumed play in the 2005-06 season following the lockout, only one goaltender, Maxime Ouellet of the Vancouver Canucks was using Koho equipment. Because the Koho name had been dropped by the Hockey Company, which consequently had not paid the NHL the appropriate licensing fees, the Koho name was not permitted to appear in a game or in any league or team media or promotional materials. Nonetheless, the Koho name remained on Ouellet's pads, which was an oversight by the league.
At the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks appeared in preseason games in 580 leg pads, which were white and blue, matching the colors of his previous team, HC Davos. The Koho name had actually already been removed from Hiller's pads prior to the 2006 IIHFWorld Championships. By the start of the regular season, Hiller was wearing 580s in colors matching the Ducks uniform. However, about halfway through the season, the logos were removed from his pads.
I kinda like it. If he's a religious person and it helps him calm down or gives him inner strength or whatever then I'm all for it. At least he's putting something on there for a reason instead of just being cool. Unless he's just putting it on there just to be cool and he's not religious lol.
