I could be wrong, but I think Weegar and Huberdeau are both single. It is surely no coincidence that they were Treliving's trade targets.

Weegar was shown with his significant other touring the dome on Flames.com a few weeks back
I will say this. If I bought a giant white GMC Sierra Denali my wife would disown me.

Wasn't Weegar with a young woman when he did the dressing room tour that got everyone in a tizzy a few weeks ago?

Ugh.
I agree with jayswin that Weegar is getting signed before the season starts, but in the unlikely event that he does not THIS IS NOT HAPPENING.
Regardless of what happens with his contract, Weegar will be spending the entire season in Calgary.

I think it’s a reasonable outcome if he isn’t signed before the season, he won’t re-sign with us. I’d also be afraid of the Weegar’s ask after a year of being coached by Sutter. I imagine he can easily take that next step with Sutter and drive up his price.

The league is pretty much capped out, it would be ideal for him to sign. I don't think they would make the comments they have if nothing is close.

Brodie, Giordano, Gaudreau and now potentially Weegar.
Brad isn't going to keep him past the trade deadline without a contract in place.
All caps... Ugh

Depends, could he be traded for a top 6 RW?
I'd rather they sign Weegar long term but asset management is always important.

I agree. What do you trade Weegar for when the Flames are clearly "going for it". Some sort of futures that you then trade for a rental defenceman like - Weegar?

If you trade Weegar for a top-six RW, suddenly you're in the market for a top-pair D again. And I know which one I want more.

If the Flames are in a playoff spot come the trade deadline, he isn't going anywhere. Keep him for the playoffs and treat him like found money. Then when he walks, found cap space.
But I seriously doubt it comes to that. Betting he signs pretty soon.

And to be clear, when we say "top 6" it really would mean second line RW. No one is trading a top line RW because then they'd need one. Unless they are in rebuild mode, in which case they don't want Weegar.

Also if you look longer term a d-man is much more a position of need in this org than a winger.
We have very little in the prospect cupboard for d-men.
For forwards we have Pelletier, Coronato, Zary that could all play wing.

Cap space is also an asset though
team was better when Gio and Brodie left than anytime they were here...Gaudreau remains to be seen

I know this is going against the grain, but is Weegar really worth a long-term deal upwards of 6M? Like, yes he had some good seasons in Florida, but that's not indicative of success here in Calgary.
- Higher altitude
- Way more travel
- Strict coach who doesn't tolerate mistakes
- System-oriented, "defence leads to offence" vs "run and gun" (his words)
I'm excited to see this guy in action, just like everyone else is, but I can understand if there's any hesitation on Tree's side.

Bodies physically adjust to higher altitude over time, so that isn’t really an issue.
I don’t think more travel will affect how he plays, just whether or not he wants to play here.
I wouldn’t say Sutter doesn’t tolerate mistakes. Kylington is a good example of that.
Sutter seems to get more out of players, not less. See 2021/2022 Flames.

6M would be a ridiculous bargain...he is getting at least 6.5 and even that would be more than fair based on what he could get next year
Top 4 dmen don't grow on trees...heck he was 1/2 on the presidents trophy winners

Weegar is worth significantly more than $6M and if the rumored cap hit of $6.25M-$6.5M is true, that is still an insane bargain for the caliber of defenseman that Weegar is

To be fair, I honestly know nothing about this guy - and even less about his abilities. I guess that's what makes me... I don't know if skeptical is the right way to put it... maybe more like willing to be patient and see how things play out?
