The agent says he's "hopeful it gets done before the season starts". Treliving says they had good discussions and we;ll see where it goes.
There is nothing there that suggests a signing is imminent. There is nothing bad here to be sure, but it suggests to me that it likely will take some time.

Hopefully this is true. To get Weegar signed will 'officially' make this a complete bases loaded, home run hit for Treliving, period, even ignoring the fact that his back was against the wall.
Zito has become my 2nd favourite GM currently in the NHL.

Yeah. This is still surreal. My number one wish going into the off-season was that Tkachuk would get traded. For it to turn into the package it did is still hard to believe. Add to that, Weegar has been one of the players in the league I’ve wanted to see in a Flaming C for a couple years. I never dreamt that we could get a guy like Huberdeau, a 1st (that became Kadri) and a bonafide bottom 6 prospect out of Tkachuk as well. I hope the hockey gods don’t punish us for such good fortune.

If Weegar signs for $6.5 mil or less for 8 years, that contract has a chance of being a franchise altering contract. Could be similar value as Hedman's contract has been to Tampa over the last few years.

Even if Tkachuk had wanted to sign here long term, I would have taken this trade without a second thought.

I was waiting to see what ELSE we gave up to get that package. Totally unbelievable. The Hockey gods gave us a break, for once.

This is why nobody is mad at Tkachuk...if he was traded for a bag of rocks everyone would hate him too

Because I'm a nitpicker and can never be happy, I'm slightly miffed that the 1st rounder had to be used to move Monahan.
I just wanted all of the pieces of that crazy trade so that in 10 years we can re visit who win tbe trade and by how much.
It's just crazy the haul the Flames got.

Okay. I never said their comments suggested it would be done by the weekend, it was all a guess on my part. Just excited that it looks very promising. That's it.

A year of development is worth value if they have a targeted player in that range, definitely could see it happening

So? This team’s window is the next 3-5 years.
We can trade another future 1st for a real player if we have to.
All in.

We have been punished for far toooo long by the hockey gods and now it is our time to shine. Just to let you know what I thought about the trade. I would have traded Huberdeau straight up for Gaudreau and Gaudreau is far more valuable than Tkachuk and that does not even include what else we got in the trade. COMPLETE LARCENY.

context
I was responding to the guy who wished they didn't give up the 1st rounder so he could track the trade tree for 10+ years including that pick
he still might be able to was my only point
I am all for trading firsts and going for it

Gaudreau is the better player but he doesn’t have better trade value than Tkachuk ever

Then think of it this way:
Monahan and Tkachuk for a signed Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar, and Schwindt.
