The problem with that is the Province didn't clarify that masks would still be required on transit and taxis until the day after Council voted to keep the bylaw.
Based on the discussions at their meeting 2 weeks ago, one of the main concerns was keeping masks on transit and taxis, and the best way to do that was to keep the full bylaw in place. I think it's possible that if the province had made the decision about transit and taxis earlier, the city might have voted to repeal 2 weeks ago.
Yes this. The province only made that clarification after the city voted two weeks ago.
TBH, I never really knew who was in charge between the Premier and Dr. Hinshaw. My instinct is that she caved a little giving Kenney what he wanted for these re-openings.
I think people just assume that Hinshaw held that thought, but there’s no real evidence. She’s certainly never made a statement that I’ve seen where she says she thinks we should be wearing masks longer or remaining closed.

Well, she did say she was wearing hers past July 1, since she wouldn't be at the two week post-second dose point yet.

There were some moments in the press conferences where she would really avoid contradicting the Premier. A few pointed questions about the sky palace lunch/drinks meeting the cabinet had, you could tell she was searching hard for the right words to answer whether she thought the that their actions were acceptable. I am sure it is a tough position to be in and the Kenney did not make it easy.
No she won't. She will and does look like the freaking idiot she is.
The Chief medical officer of this province has signed off on it. How the eff does Drue think she is more qualified than Deena Henshaw, who I may point out, was the very reason we have been doing what we have been doing for 16 months?
So it was OK to shut the province down on her advice, but screw her, she doesnt know squat when things change?
Same goes for Nenshi and his minions...like well done I guess? You lasted 4 days more than anywhere else because.....you are smarter than everyone else?
Just a ridiculous over reach of government that way too many people seem to be OK with. I do not get it.
They suck.
That’s a ridiculous position.
When the city punted their decision to July 5th the province hadn’t clarified their rules on Hospitals and transit. That seems like a reasonable reason to send the administration back to make a recommendation on removing the bylaw.
The city bylaw was put in place well before the province one was. The province one was certainly implemented after it was prudent to do so based on evidence under the rational that local jurisdictions should decide based on the conditions of spread on the ground. It seems to many that logic does not apply to removing it.
Hindhaw specifically said that municipalities could address their own needs
Quote:
Hinshaw said Alberta is shifting into a phase of the pandemic where it’s “reasonable” for people to make decisions about their own risks, which may include continuing to wear masks in certain settings. Municipalities, she added, can assess their own local context, especially since the effort to get everyone a second dose of COVID vaccine is still rolling out.
So ridiculous overreach or following the the CMOS instructions?
Either leaving it on for two weeks until we know the rT for delta with no restrictions or taking it off and seeing what happens are reasonable positions within the current level of scientific knowledge.
The debate today was over 3 weeks not 6 months.

Drug looks like a petty idiot for blocking the third reading and making them schedule another meeting to delay things, not for voting against it. Reasonable people could vote either way, once you've lost a vote wasting everyone's time is stupid.

Fully agree druh was being stupid. It was the rest of the post that was ridiculous.
