I didn't say he'd win, I just said he wouldn't be wrong in assuming most voters aren't informed

Between all the votes for Thunder and Kinney, and other people abstaining completely because they have no idea who anyone is, I wonder how close the Senate vote will be when all is said and done?

It would be magical if they somehow pulled that off. I doubt it, but it’s the only reason I’m voting for senators.

There were party affiliations printed directly on the ballot.

My prediction is the the 3 conservative party of Canada candidates will all win.

I abstained because I'm confused about why I was voting.

Like voting no for the equalization review, I'm not a big fan of elected officials offloading their responsibilities on me, so they don't have answer for the impossible / empty promises they made.

Isn’t that the glory of this one though? Like we vote in favour of this being reviewed, and the UPC has the impossible task of delivering on it.

As if they really care about "delivering" what people want. I voted NO because Jason Kenney wants a bunch of YES votes.

Equalization is an incredibly nuanced topic, but these two op-eds do a good job of explaining at a high level what the deal currently is (structured by Harper and Kenny) and what the ramifications of renegotiating it (let alone abolishing it, like the ballot question is asking) will have.

I voted yesterday and I was really surprised how long it took. I had to wait in line for about 45 minutes just because of the volume of people. It's easily the longest I've ever had to queue to vote. I don't know if what, if anything, that implies for the outcome.

Yeah, I read those links and that’s all fine. But again, Kenney can win this referendum and literally nothing changes. It’s not like other governments are coming to run to the negotiating table for a guy with a 22% approval rating to get some leverage and change the constitution.

The first article suggests this is a risk of attempting to remove equalization: "The deal allowed provinces with natural resource endowments to keep those revenues and use them to run their own affairs." That the Feds might take natural resources revenues.

I dont think that's likely, because I'm pretty confident that if they did so Alberta would separate. It would just be too egregious a change to the deal of Federation.
