A town in North Carolina has rejected Solar panels on the grounds they might "suck up all the energy from the sun."

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-a6771526.html

Quote:
During the Woodland Town Council meeting, one local man, Bobby Mann, said solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not go to Woodland, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald reported.
...
Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.

Ms Mann said she had seen areas near solar panels where plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.

She also questioned the high number of cancer deaths in the area, saying no one could tell her solar panels didn't cause cancer.

That was just a quote from a person who was at the meeting. The actual reasons was that the town already had 3 solar farms approved, the location of the solar farms were impacting existing usage by residents and the solar farms provided no benefits to the town in terms of tax revenue, jobs or cheaper electricity.

A retired science teacher.
I bought my current home off of a retired science teacher who was the general contractor. My footer drains exit uphill to daylight. My 7 year old daughter mentioned that they would only work if the water was under pressure.

Another absolutely sickening story of animal abuse. I simply cannot believe the depths of people's cruelty. I hope the little guy recovers.

I don't know why I click these links. It always infuriates me and just makes me think about my own dog for the rest of the day.

Children and animals. I just don't understand how people can do these types of things.

It is infuriating - because we feel helpless that the people that do these things don't get the beat down they deserve.

For me it's more about the ability to defend oneself. Children and animals (particularly small ones) have no means of fighting back, and generally no concept of what is happening to them. They just suffer with no idea why the person they trusted did this to them.

It's just a sickening thought. I feel bad leaving my dog alone for half the day. I can't imagine the type of psychopath it takes to tape one up and leave it for dead. Like, just kill the thing if that's the road you're going to take.

just read that this morning in edmonton two seperate macs stores were held up and both the employees were killed by these idiots absolutly disgusting that people would do this. They caught 3 people aged 13, 24 and 26. the one macs store was on the same street as my parents and i would often go there to buy stuff and would often see the one man that was killed he was a nice person.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...dict-1.3415112

I didn't even know this was going on. The verdict came out today.

Short version of story: feminist activist wants to hire (well, he was going to work for free as it's a charitable initiative) graphic designer for new initiative. Meets with accused. They go back and forth over whether he's going to do the work. Meanwhile feminist activist tweets about other guy who makes offensive video game, and tries to incite internet mob to destroy him. Feminist activist and friend announce they're going to "sic the internet" on game creator. Accused says this isn't right, feminist activist blocks him.

Large scale internet flame war ensues, involving much invective and e-rage. Feminist activist somehow convinces police to charge accused with criminal harassment for tweeting too much about her, and this incident, on twitter with other twitter users. Crown somehow decides to take this case to trial.

What in the actual f###? Unbelievable that this thing wasn't laughed out of the police station, or Court.

I just read the entire ruling. There is a lot to it. Both parties seemed pretty antagonist, but didn't appear to be harassment from what I heard at other times.

And I learned that the legal term for "ignorance is bliss" is "mens rea".

I think there might have been another thread already on this topic?

Yeah, as I said, it's pretty much an internet flame war where both sides "harassed" the other in equal measure, and somehow the police and crown thought it made sense to get involved. What an absurd waste of money. I was talking about it with someone and he noted that this sort of stuff somehow yields immediate action, but his seven figure fraud case took three years for anyone to even look at. Boggles the mind.
