Agreed. Treliving was in desperation mode after Tkachuk and Gaudreau left.

I can tell you that that trade require the liberal application of a stick.
To Treliving's dumbass skull!

What do the caps need? I’d swap a Mangiapane + a D prospect like Grushnikov (or Solovyov) for Kuznetsov if they gave us Ryan Leonard.

I want to pick him up…
Wrap him up in a big gift box with a ribbon on top…
And drop him off in Edmonton.
It's the hockey version of giving someone an unwanted pet for Christmas.

Yeah, there's a time for acquiring misfit toys on the off chance they might blossom given a fresh start, and this ain't it. I liked Kuznetsov's game back when he had it, but he doesn't have it anymore, and I don't want to set eight and a half million in cap on fire on the slim chance he'll get it back.

It was a common practice in older times, its the 'White Elephant' Practice.

I never really watch WSH. Are you saying that you watch WSH and that Kuznetsov wasn’t valuable when he had 55 points in 22-23? The guy has been in the player assistance program. Maybe he was assisted, and he will return to form?

Cannot gamble almost 8M on a large "maybe", especially when this club is about to send a top pair dman away and very likely flush away any chance at the playoffs.

Lolllll this is def that guy but I do remember him doing that all the way to the Stanley Cup, and he was probably equally as deserving as Ovie for the Conn Smythe.
The guy is an all world talent but I admittedly haven’t paid attention to him lately so not sure how bad his game has dipped.

Hope that Kuznetsov has some chemistry with Huberdeau and/or Kuzmenko. Then, trade Kuzmenko and Kuznetsov at the deadline next season.
Won't the Flames have like 20+ MM in cap space next season.

From the guy who for years wouldn’t stop calling Treliving an idiot. Hilarious.

Yes, but a fresh start within his current org or a fresh start with a new one? I would assume the latter but it's not clear.

TBH, this is probably a completely theoretical conversation. In order to make a claim on a player signed for next year, at $7.8 million player, you’d have to know your cap situation next year. And they don’t. So, they won’t claim him. There’s a 0% chance.

I'd seriously consider trading for him if it came with a 1st round pick. If he's a train wreck you just bury him later. Probably not practical but using the cap space for a 1st seems like a reasonable thought.

Honestly, that was my first thought. He’d fit in perfectly with Kane and Perry.
