Well, I'm very very glad that Brad decided to move on.

The constant bleeding of assets for depth players, as well as always being the bridesmaid on deals for lowballing other GMs got old pretty quickly.

I bet that Ilya becomes their 7th D in the playoffs.

Yeah. You don't pay futures for #7D.

You promote from within for that role, or make a waiver claim. Either option is way, way better than spending futures.

Shows you have no faith in your scouting & development when you're spending assets for replacement level players.

So glad we finally figured out the benefits of leaning on the young talent in your own system.

No depth picks thrown away for nothing, and the promotions have actually moved the needle for the team.

I guess in that aspect, Treliving is old school-minded, and I'd say it's to his detriment

Modern day San Jose. Hang around but can't get the job done.

He does have lucrative pieces he can move though.

Brad inherited a finished rebuild and everything he has done so far has been poor. Anything currently going right for the Leafs was previously acquired.

Funny fact, the first time the Leafs traded for him they spent their 2025 2nd rounder, this time it's their 2025 3rd rounder.

I wonder if a team has ever traded 2 draft picks from the same draft on the same player in 2 separate trades?

Would've been better off trying to get Mario Ferraro and he's quite no good too.

Their highest draft pick next year is a 5th rounder. Some of that is on the previous regime, but still.

honestly why not just trade the first for Tanev? at this rate he won't even be around when it matters

IMO he tried but I don't think they have the cap space for Tanev even at 75% retained lol

And Conroy had no interest in taking back a dead contract in the deal without additional payment.

Just my opinion.

No, but Shanahan will be, and I'm sure he has a big rubber stamp that says: DENIED

Leafs were playing Marner on defence after Gio got hurt in the Coyotes game. Liligren and Timmins are hurt. Lubushkin has played here recently and he's the type of player they need. I'm fine with a 3rd. I'd much rather give up a 3rd for Boosh than a 3rd for Rittich.

Wonder if Toronto was the team Lebrun mentioned that offered a first but came with a cap dump?

He pulled off some big trades.

There's no doubt that he also constantly bled second and third round picks for useless depth veterans, that were not better than prospects already in the system.

No kidding. Same old story of him being in the longtime running for difference maker players only to not pay the price and then resort to overpaying for a depth player. When you look at the cost to acquire Tanev, this trade looks pretty bad for the Leafs.

That's simply not true. We have a poll where a large portion of the site wanted him fired before last season. Plenty of us sniffed this guy out years ago.
