I expect a huge playstyle change with the game now running on the Frostbite engine. I will play the demo and if the gameplay impresses it might be the first NHL game in like 4 years that I buy.

How do you, promoter of the deal that is gamepass, not have EA Play?
$30 a year or whatever and you get to play a bunch of games, just delayed by a few months. NHL 22 will be on it probably 10 months from now.
Highly recommended for anyone who likes, but doesn't love EA games.
hahahah I have EA Play through Gamepass....I meant buy an NHL game before it is available on Gamepass.
Haha ok that makes way more sense.

The lettering/numbering, the way they hang overall, and the fact that the shoulder pads just look like rounded lumps that are part of the arms. I don't know if they'll ever get to a point where they get it right, but there HAS to be a way to make the lettering and numbers not stretch and distort like it's the same fabric of the jersey.

Haven’t been a fan of this series for a long time. Feels largely the same game since NHL 08 which was the first version on the PS3.
I haven’t bought this game since 16 as I just didn’t think it was worth it. With this being the first year on the new Gen consoles I am planning on picking it up.
I'm excited to see what frostbite can do, but first year on a new engine might be a recipe for a buggy mess. Excited to see a demo. This is the first time we're hearing about graphic upgrades, and the PS5/XboxWhateverIt'sCalled appears to be siloed from the previous generation consoles, so that could be good.
Matthews on the cover again - EA really does just copy/paste the same game over and over.
Jokes aside, I need to see a gameplay trailer. NHL 21 was terrible - the worst gameplay I've played. I normally play about 300 hours of NHL per year and called it after about 30 last year.
HUT is going to be a nightmare with 4 separate markets though. I don't think I can go back to a team building mode from EA though - MLB The Show is so much better, especially if you don't want to spend any cash.

Are they going to offer it on PC this year? Seems NHL is the one sport that never gets a PC release.
Madden didn't get a PC release for a number of years (I believe about 10 years) until it recently came back. I don't own a gaming console and do all of my gaming on PC. I'd really like it to come to the PC again.

For 22.. If you like to play with buddies or HUT, keep in mind this year that there is no cross gen play. That means if you have the Series X version or the PS5 version you cannot play with Xbox One or Ps4 players.
And still no cross console play.. so this year the player base is split into 4 groups.
If you just play be a pro and franchise this wont matter much to you.
...actual gameplay does not look visually impressive to me.
This to me is the issue with a fast paced game like hockey... once the game gets moving, it just doesn't look all that different past a certain point. You can go back a few years even and zoom into small details in a replay and they actually look pretty stunning. In a real-time game though, you'd never notice them.
The stick physics look cool and hopefully that changes the feel. I don't know... the keys they seem to be focusing on for this years game don't really speak to me. The perks sound pretty arcade-like all around. So instead of just having a high rating for shot release, we have to apply a power-up? And when we do, we get a special replay that looks Xtreme? I'm excited to try the beta and I'm sure I'll buy the game, but I'm not losing much sleep waiting for this one.

This is probably my favourite feature. It makes me feel like the PS5 version won't just be an upscaled port of the PS4 version, so maybe there can be more room for next-gen specific improvements. In all likelihood it'll _actually_ mean growing pains, but that's ok.
