Yup. Only takes a few minutes, and they know the areas of town where they aren't permitted so they can do a quick map search.

No need to fine people or ban vacation properties, most vacation areas in the US have a TAT(Transient Accommodation Tax) for short term rentals. Certainly that keeps it under control.
