Airmiles are garbage now, just like Safeway. Not sure how much influence Sobeys has over AM but they sure destroyed Safeway. I kind of figured the two were related and Sobeys was trying a new 'scorch and salt the earth' approach to running their businesses.

How is Safeway garbage? It's my top choice for grocery shopping and their recent price drop promotion has actually made what I shop for cheaper.

I feel it's a shadow of its former self since Sobeys took over. Maybe every location in Canada isn't garbage but the brand itself is crap now imo. Store standards are gone and customer service is terrible/non-existent. Maybe it's just the three that I go to on a semi-regular basis?

Lower prices are nice but they are way late on that one. They are just desperate since they have lost $2 billion over the last two quarters.

Location likely makes a difference. I haven't noticed much of a change (good or bad) from the change at the one that I shop at.

I switched to Superstore and can't believe the monthly difference in my food bill (for the better). Costco for meats and veggies and Superstore for everything else. I only shop at Safeway if I'm buying gas and I can knock off 10 cents per L

I am happy to pay a premium so I don't have to set foot in Superstore. Too big, too many people, crazy parking lots. Safeway is right on the way home, easy parking, and I can pick up what I need in 5-10 minutes on the way home from work.

I shopped at Superstore when I was a student and cost was the deciding factor.

Click & collect. $3-$5 is well worth the price of not setting foot in the store.

Ha.

Air Miles cancels expiry policy — your miles are safe
Quote:
Air Miles customers no longer have to worry about using up their miles by the end of the year. Today, the loyalty program announced it is cancelling its expiry policy that was scheduled to take effect on Dec.31.

The decision is effective immediately.

The Ontario government is set to vote on Monday on a private member's bill that would make it illegal for rewards programs like Air Miles to impose an expiry date on points. Air Miles' owner, Toronto-based LoyaltyOne, said the "uncertainty" that such legislation has created prompted the company to nix its expiry rule.

Smart way to drive down that liability on their books. I bet a CPA who flew in on a helicopter gave them that idea.

I cashed out most of my miles on tickets to Ottawa for next summer. Ditching the card now. There is no way I would be able to accumulate enough points for anything I would want if they expire after 5 years. I took me 15 years to get to where I was. All of the desirable destinations were not available for booking during the times I wanted.

I'm right ####ing pissed about this. I was saving up but felt I had to spend my points because some of mine were due to expire when they said it would. On MONDAY I placed an order for a watch. Now today I find out they aren't even going to expire anymore. No email. No notification. I found out by reading today's Sun. The f'ing website isn't even updated. It still has the link showing the expiry dates.

So god damn stupid.

The expiry thing didn't affect me personally as I have rolled through my miles frequently enough over the past few years for various things. But I really didn't like the idea of an expiry - it seemed like a blatant cash grab and a slap in the face to loyal customers.

Then add in the problems as people rushed to cash them in, often for a limited selection of flights and products, as they had no other choice. And then to find out that it was all for nought, and they would have been better off just keeping them. I'd be super pissed if I rushed to cash in miles on something I didn't really want or need, only to read the news.

I feel kind of dirty having and Air Miles credit card now, and I'll probably switch it up out of principle. They've made a bad decision worse. And then found a way to make it even worse.

FAK. I ordered a snowblower. Don't need one. Just didn't want all those miles to go to waste.

Oh man.. Didn't pylon cash in like 15,000 miles because of the expiry? That's enough for some decent flights. I suspect he's going to be livid.
