Regardless, even as an avid Flames fan and Canadian resident with ongoing SportsNet coverage throughout the games, I'm sure I'll be watching less NHL and more Olympics during the games.

It'll be interesting to see viewership and attendance numbers during that period.

That's not really surprising. NBC pretty much airs wall-to-wall Olympic coverage on all its properties during the Games.

Attendance should be fine since the tickets are sold in advance. And each team has what 3? maybe 4 home games during the Olympics?

Maybe it's because its Larry Brooks, but this doesn't pass the smell test with me... The Olympics always dominate NBC coverage in prime time/evenings, and they pay massively for the broadcast rights (they paid $7.75B for 6 Olympics (12 weeks of total broadcast time) vs. $2B for 10 years of NHL games), and I have a hard time believing they ever intended to preempt a 3 hour block of the Olympics on their national broadcasts to go to a mid-season NHL game.

What about on NBCSC? Will that mostly be Olympics also? Surprised they wouldn't do there regular Wednesday games on that at least. Can't imagine NHL is fond of that.
