It would not surprise me if Chu was a Trump supporter...

Something just seems wrong about this:

...So much so that he has since deleted the tweet.

I have to give him props for that tweet, actually. There are so many ways that could have gone terribly wrong; instead it only bordered on beating a dead horse. I am surprised he deleted that, of all of them.

Lots of trophy husbands out there. Good move in placating the MRA crowd.

Everyone who bitches about the Peace Bridge is a walking embodiment of why we can't have nice things.

Sean Chu stopped by Saturday night. He showed himself around to the back yard to say hi. I was a caught a little off guard as we were having a few beers after getting the walls up on my garage, and thinking on my feet after working all day under the hot sun was not where my mind was.

I told him I could not support him due to his ongoing issues with bike lanes. He said "I am OK with the pathways, but not to take road lanes away from cars." I pointed to my wife, and said that her I and I both cycle to work, and the safety provided by bike lanes is very important to us. "I can't support someone who doesn't feel that is important." He replied that "we will have to disagree on that." I told him if that was his position, he would not be receiving any support from me, and he left. It struck me by how little concern he seemed to have for safety of cyclists. Rather odd for a former police officer.

Well if anything, it sounds like he wasn't making false promises to get your vote. I think that would be worse.

When it comes to the bike lanes issue, I think he is resolved on this because of a mixture of his long-standing opposition to it, anti-Nenshi and urban development, and personal pride.

I think he's finished as a Councilor. One and done. Greg Miller is going to mop the floor with him.

I was door knocking for a candidate in one of the communities that's switching from Ward 4 to Ward 3 - he's pretty popular I'd say based on what people were saying at the door. Most people that are switching wards have no idea, so when informed a lot of people said "oh, that's too bad, I like Sean". A couple were very anti-Chu, but I'd say the majority that reacted were supporters of his.

It's not uncommon for polite homeowners to say they like all candidates; many of them may just as easily say they like Greg Miller or another candidate. People generally aren't rude to doorknockers. I wouldn't vote for Chu, but I also wouldn't tell him directly I disliked him to him or his campaign team.

All that really matters is what happens on the ballot box, when people aren't being watched and are behind the barrier of a voting booth.

My parents are well... older, and grumble about the typical things that old people grumble about. Silly Hall, property taxes, horrific changes to their garbage bin collection schedule, blue rings, even bike lanes, etc.

But they think that Sean Chu is a complete tool and won't be voting for him. So there's hope. They've had a few personal interactions with him at community events and their impressions are not good. Incumbents are typically difficult to unseat, unfortunately, regardless of their performance.

A little bump as I just realized what ward I've moved into Are there any good resources out there or just the elections page and their links?

Our favourite ever-vigilant fiscal conservative councillor approved retirement bonuses for the CPA becuase he "missed it".

Quote:
Two members of city council sit on the parking authority's board.
One of them, Coun. Sean Chu was caught unaware by the program.

"I have to admit it. I missed that," said Chu. "I apologize for having missed that part."

The councillor has been a vocal critic of the retirement allowance for city employees.
"People don't get bonuses for retiring."
Good job, well done.
