he's a world class athlete with tremendous speed - a mile makes a lot more sense than a km
If a 4:23 is his best ever km, that would be pretty bad actually

I have no idea what a good 1 KM is if you are just training it. If that’s your race, sure. But an average split in a good amateur 10K is about 5 minutes.
In the clip McDavid is jogging.

And a stupid training session.
It would be a hell of a time for a non-track athlete. Elite women in track only run about 10 seconds faster. Men 30-40.
