If your top 6 guys get you 3 goals a game, that’s an average for each player of 41 goals per season. If it’s your top 9, it’s 27 goals per season.
Now, Calgary’s top 9 forwards are actually scoring at about a 2.7 goals per game pace, which is actually quite spectacular.
I forget that Calgary is leading the NHL in goal differential.
They are getting offensive production from its top 9 without sacrificing defensive responsibility.
I tend to think that is exactly what Sutter is thinking.
