I hate the Ducks but they are still playing well. Hope we can win this one since they ruined our home opener.

Plus, Gio (or my Oilers buddies love to call him Knee-ordano) is totally in their heads, so maybe he roughs up McJesus some more tonight too.

All the flak from other teams' fans about cowboy this, farmer that, mumbles etc... this guy's hockey brain is on a completely different level than anyone else I can think of.

He has upside for sure, but you need to show it.
I've noticed also that Sutter often clarifies questions about players when a reporter references their last name, by clarifying with their first name (in this presser's case, it was "Blake?" when asked about "Coleman"). Just something I've noticed he does consistently.

A lot of people are just judgmental ####s (or envious).
They have an idea of how intelligence is packaged and can't wrap their minds around someone outside of the stereotype bringing such heady insights to the table.
You'd think in this day and age with all that's gone on that people would have moved beyond believing people can be sorted into neat baskets based on their appearance or demeanor.
Guess again.

Yup. His pressers are amazing every time. When you get a coach like this...why not change out the players when they get sick of the message instead of the other way around?
Every team in the league has garbage contracts they're tied too. I'm aware that GMs can't help themselves to signing long term deals, but if every contract was capped at 3yrs the way we value players vs management might change as liquidity in the league increased.

Agree. I think Sutter has done that a lot with players names in the media. Sutter referencing first names and nicknames of his players is a natural thing for him, I think it's his his way of respect for the players and how he refers to them when answering media questions. It's like he purposely doesn't refer to them by their last names as an acquaintance or the media would... he refers to them with personal connection. Shows respect and inclusiveness.

I can't imagine Colorado doesn't catch up eventually, but their Goaltending is shaky as hell right now.
Vegas with their injuries and also shaky goaltending could very well lurk in a wildcard spot for the entire season. Thats a tough out for a Division winner.
Again, you can't get too ahead of yourself but its hard not to start to look at what the path to the cup would look like. The East is chock full of really good teams, and with the statistical likelihood of 3 in a row for Tampa, that conference title is really up for grabs for a number of really good teams.
The west seems wide open with Vegas taking a step back. Is Dallas still a top team? Does St Louis have enough for another run?
My last unrelated game day musing is that, If Toffoli actually hits the block I can't think of a better deadline pickup. If the Flames are still looking like a true contender at the 50, 60 game mark, I think you overpay for Toffoli. He is everything you are looking for for this team. Knows Sutter, RW, Scoring, Monahan history. Everything.
What would it take? Pitlick (for cap) 1st and a 3rd?
|
Colorado is 2nd in the division on winning percentage - I have no doubt they'll win the division
I also have little doubt that Vegas will rise to 3rd - and if they don't, TFB!
More importantly, WAY too early to worry about playoff seeding, let's keep the focus on the now, and worry about making the playoffs.

I could listen to Darryl talk hockey all day. Listening to him talk hockey brings me back to sitting around the coffee table with my uncle's talking hockey in the old days. Old farmers usually love two things, cows and hockey.

A lot of people mistake glibness for intelligence. The media encourage this habit as much as they can, because glibness is the one thing they are unquestionably good at.
Sutter is about as far from glib as you can get, short of aphasia.
