I am sure he is also, I was only responding to the point he was going to file a grievance. His only grievance would be with the PA and we will see how it plays out.

Saw a video of former UFC champ Chris Weidman talking about his neck disc replacement surgery and after watching that, I think I'd be perfectly fine trading for Eichel. If an MMA fighter who trains in gruelling conditions and gets punched in the head for a living can still perform after this so called "experimental" surgery, then I like the chances that a hockey player can as well.
I wouldn't deny any reasonable package for Eichel. He really could take this team to the next level. The current top line with him centering a second line would be a helluva top 6.

I’ve read the agreement sand there’s a lot more grey area than you are suggesting. And any discretionary power in that kind of employment agreement has to be exercised reasonably.
That’s why they are gathering evidence to prove that the decision of the Sabres is not reasonable.

Yeah Buffalo's doctor must be from the stone-age, disc replacement has a 90% success rate, faster recovery and with full mobility with no known need for future operations, cervical fusion has a 90% success rate with loss of mobility and almost a 100% need for future operations.
I have a feeling this is all about LTIR insurance

Isn't there a way for Eichel to breach/terminate his contract, have the surgery, then become a UFA?

I don’t see the risk though. There’s plenty of teams ready to drop big assets on him, I guarantee someone would give him a 10 million dollar 1 or 2 year deal once he’s finished with the surgery of his choosing. If he thinks this surgery is going to keep him playing then he’s not going to lose (much) money if he just gets it done I think.

He can't just terminate the contract, the team has to agree as well, and the Sabres aren't going to agree to that either. It would mean they'd lose him for nothing, and clearly they want a massive haul of assets in return for him.

If Eichel just goes and gets his surgery without the Sabres permission, then what can the Sabres do? It it’s a breach of contract they can void the contract, which I don’t think Eichel would mind because then he’s free to sign wherever.
Maybe the Sabres can toll/pause his contract if he breaches it. In that case then yeah, not as great of an option.
Still though, if he would have just went and yolo’d and got his surgery 8 months ago he’d be playing again already, for Buffalo or someone else.

No but he could just go ahead and do the surgery he wants though, the Sabres could then void his contract and stop paying him for breach thus making him a FA or just suck it up and keep paying him, the way things are going if I was Eichel I would bet on myself and just do the surgery.

and if the surgery doesn't go well - which is a real possibility - he is out $50 million dollars

Which is why I said to bet on himself, if the surgery goes as expected he wouldn't be out anything, except that hole Buffalo

Thing is nobody is giving him the money BEFORE the surgery
If there is an issue he is out 50M

Nah they will hold on. The asset has 10 million reasons to capitulate. They have very few.

Well, he's 24 years old, he needs some sort of surgery to play again, one has a 90% chance of being normal, the other will leave him somewhat restrictive and most likely will require more future surgeries for a normal life.
All I'm saying is if he bet on himself and got the surgery that has a 90% chance of him returning to normal he wouldn't loose a dime and probably would have a long lasting career.

Or have a 100% chance at 50M
No probably needed....he would be insane to breach his contract at this point.

The asset is getting paid either way. They’re welcome to give him his salary and get nothing in return, I guess.

At this point if I was Jack I might get the surgery I want and make Buffalo either suspend me (can’t due to cap reasons) terminate my contract (wouldn’t as he would become a UFA) or trade me to a team okay with it.
