The Alberta Children's Hospital.

This place is seriously amazing. Such kind staff and doctors and they are swamped today and all still look like they love helping kids and their parents.

They do love helping kids.

Both of mine have had experiences there.

One had major surgery and the other had broken bones.

Both experiences were amazing, considering the circumstances.

Now, maybe this was common sense, but previously, I was pretty haphazard with them and got obviously horrible results trying to pick out the seeds out with a toothpick. I didn’t know you had to make special cuts and beat the seeds out.

We've had more experiences at the ACH than the average family when my son was younger so have met several of the docs and nurses - now that he's older he's quite a bit more stable and is a normal little guy. What always strikes me is that the staff are constantly seeing people and their kids at their worst moment, and it's got to be incredibly difficult for them...but they don't let that spill over between patients, even though it must be incredibly difficult dealing with sick or injured kids, difficult parents, etc. Just incredible.

That's great to hear. We had few visits with my daughter, including trips to the old location. Which also had great service in a cramped facility.

That being said it doesn't sound like what you have had to endure.

Happy to hear you boy is doing better.

I was feeling a bit down so I drove down to Surrey to the Danish Deli and loaded up on leverpostej, medisterpolse, rodkal, and many many other things.

I had two slices of rye with freshly broiled liver pate and red cabbage, followed by a chaser of akvavit. I feel great.

Was the leverpostej from the deli or did you broil it yourself? I love the stuff and Glamorgan deli used to sell it. Maybe still does.

But it was made at the deli, sold chilled. My Dad would make frikadeller too which they also sold.

It’s the stuff you broil yourself. Absolute heaven.

Heat. Having heat in the house, especially with these temperatures, makes me super happy.

I've been working a bunch of extra time and travelling for work the last couple of months so things are pretty ok for Christmas. My wife talked me into buying a turntable I've been eyeing up for a few months. Went to buy it last night and it was over 25% off. Score.

Now I have my late 80s hifi gear set up and the living room instead of the basement and my wife and I have been just relaxing and listening to old Chet Baker and Nina Simone all night. Feels good.

At one time, a stereo was the centrepiece of any civilized home. They belong in living rooms.

+1000 for the ACH.
My 1st son needed over a month in the NICU when he was born, just minutes after birth at the Foothills. Every single nurse in that place is a godsend, the amount of work and care they give to those babies is absolutely heroic.

The support they give you as parents is unprecedented, being able to stay there overnight and have them support you as well during the difficult time is more than anyone could ask for. Luckily for us it was only around a month and a few surgeries later we were home and happy. Fast forward almost 3 years later and although we still have regular follow ups multiple times per year were very thankful for the work they do.

I knew the ACH was great, but it wasn't until I had to personally see and visit the NICU that I knew the place was special. World class care for some unfortunately very sick children, it's a tough place to be as a parent... I can't imagine having to do it for a living.

I'll always be thankful for the help and support they've shown my family over the years, which is why I only take donations to the ACH any time I give tickets away here on CP.

I wish I could give more, but I give what I can when I can.

My kids spent about 10 days in the NICU at Foothills when they were born. They were preemies but other than that no real concerns so it was basically to monitor them until they were good to go home. Hands down that unit was absolutely the best. They are also on our charitable donation list every year and have been for 20 years now.

Walking around the neighborhood looking at all the Christmas lights with my son who at 2 years old finally can understand the joy of the holidays. He begs to go walk after I pick him up at daycare.

Best feeling ever seeing him light up at all of the random Santa/lights people have up. We haven't had time to put our tree up this year due to other things going on in life but i'll do this walk every day with him if he wants it.
