I'm guessing the 2nd could become a 1st if Stone re-signs.
Honestly depending on the price of the contract I may have been okay with including Valimaki...and I really like Valimaki.

Noon on deadline day: Come on Brad, don't sell the farm, stay the course. Don't pay a price that is too high. This is a great team being built.
1:00 on deadline day: NOT LIKE THAT
This is why fans can't be general managers. We all lose our minds.

Lindberg is UFA at the end of the season, barely scores and makes $1.75M. Seems like a negative value contract to include in the deal to make salaries balance.

Capitals didnt do anything last year and they won the Cup. Lightning didnt do anything, they are #1. Flames are #2, and didnt want to mortgage the farm for what may have been a rental. Flames were out of the playoffs last year, let's see what we have with these guys first.

I would have gladly given up more than that for an extension-signing Stone.
Unless he signs for over 9.5 million per year.
And the Flames would have had to have sent salary to Ottawa, so it would have been tougher.

Hearing an extension for Stone in Vegas is highly likely.

Maybe he just didn't want to sign an extension with Calgary.

And it's not even Vegas' 2nd round pick. It's Dallas'.

It's not the time. The Flames are already crazy good and only two core players are older than 25. They have another 5-8 years to get this right.
Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make. Imagine how much better the Oilers would be if they'd done literally nothing for the last three years.

Await the extension before judging.
That price, with a reasonable extension, is totally legit, and one I'd have hoped we would pay.

Norm!

Probably Calgary was a hard no on Valimaki, and Vegas was the last one in and were willing to move that high end defensive prospect.
Dorian outleveraged himself and ended up with very few teams willing to deal.

I might be in the minority, but I'm perfectly fine with how all of that played out. Stone doesn't push Vegas over the top and I'm super happy that we didn't sell the farm here.

No. The equivalent would have been Valimaki, Alan Quine, and a 2nd
IMO the Flames should have been all over this. I am very disappointed

Ya looks like it came down to what we were prepared to agree to on a long term deal v. VGK. Obviously Tre was not going to upset our structure even for a star like Mark Stone.
Big mistake? Maybe.
