I feel like you are correct on this, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch.

Sure its posturing, however the Mayor looks absolutely terrible in this situation.

As for the proposal "sucked" , I guess I don't understand.

Will be interesting to see what is the next step with the City

Sorry, how’s did the city act as a petulant child here? By following their existing policy?

And someday, I may not be alive to see it, because the way this city operates it will probably 30 years down the road, we may finally have a new arena/event centre.

What is he even trying to say. That entire article seemed like was hedging peoples’ dislike for the mayor and corporate welfare.

Well, being such an ardent pessimist surely doesn't help with longevity.

First time I read a Rick Bell article.

Wow.

Does anyone out there actually enjoy reading stuff written like this?

And this begs the question, "did this guy even finish high school?"

Why are there so many fragment sentences?

Why does he only use small words?

Why must each sentence be its own paragraph?

Dumb.

IIRC, The Sun in general is written for a 6th grade reading level and Bell writes at least a couple levels below that.

Of course, reading level doesn't necessarily reflect intelligence, but it certainly doesn't help Bell seem that bright.

That Toronto Star article yesterday was even worse. What is going on in journalism schools these days. Are students taught to write puff pieces with no substance to try to rile up people?

To be clear, the rest of my post was related to the full size arena.

That said, give me a magic wand and I'd build another grandstand opposite the Stampede Grandstand as a new home for the Stamps, with a ~5k seat arena behind it and shared indoor concourse(s). Kill the horse-track and add some sporting field(s)

Extend the Riverwalk and you'll eventually have an amazing park/pathway system from Lindsay Park to Fort Calgary (and beyond in all directions)

Yes, I do remember when he went by "The Dinger", although I was never a Sun reader. My first memory of ever having heard of the guy was when he ran for mayor in 1998, on the basis that somebody had to run against Al Duerr. (Duerr won his fourth and final term with >70% of the vote; "The Dinger" finished somewhere in the single digits.)

This would take a lot less council time and expense if CSEC would just step forward and admit the real reason was overall cost increases, not the extra city costs.

One nugget is 2.4M of the climate costs is actually $100k in operating costs annually from 2035 and beyond (2.4M being the NPV).

I may not have gathered the full scope of this, but per the answer to Councillor Walcott's question, the city's contribution actually amounted to:

Land value (confidential) + 323M + share of operating costs

LOL Councillor Wong's first question...the administration dude had no idea what the hell he was asking...nor did I!

Boring, but fun way to get a sense of the new councillors while they are especially green.

Reading between the lines, the GM seems to acknowledge that there was likely some reasonable confusion about the roadway/sidewalk costs - perhaps related to the changeover from CMLC as lead.

But, the city agreed to take on the 6.4M for roads, leaving 5.7M for sidewalks as the only real possible issue here
