The big open area (farm) where Scenic Acres is now. We use to board our horses there, and my sister would ride her horse to our house in Silver Springs (corner or Nose Hill and Crowchild) I was 9-10 and thought it was the coolest thing. Use to ride my dirt bike across Nose Hill and into the field. Before they built the strip mall in that corner there use to be mounds of dirt which were made into some sort of BMX/dirt bike track.

Being a forest lawner growing up in the 80's , Rollerland comes to mind first and foremost, spent most of my childhood there and have more memories of it then anything else.

Peepers North in the old Beacon, loved that place ha-ha. Would indulge once in awhile and have a piece of Peepers Pizza. My buddy was the first to go, he looked about 12 (was 16). He became a regular so a bunch of us joined him one night, we were all under age but at least looked close to being 18. Some of us had fake id's and some didn't, the waitress comes to the table and asks my buddy if we were legal, he says "Yeap" and that was it. Spent many nights there, and the Airliner which was on the corner of Edmonton Trail and Mcknight (Quality Inn)

I forgot about Denny Andrews (Back Alley). The bouncers there were the worst, use to see them stomp the crap out of more people then I care to mention. Remember one time one of the bouncers leaping off a rail and doing an elbow smash into some poor kids melon. Would head across the parking lot, through some seedy area an viola you were at Peepers/Frankie and Johnny's South.

The dead cows in sicome lake and fish creek before the 2005 flood. I pretty much lived down there as a kid and was through a couple weeks ago and nothing looks the same. I remember Canso Place (South of Canyon Medows Drive) when there was horses and less then 10 houses on it.

I remeber looking for Charles Ng's hide out around suicide hill on the edge of Shaw-nee golf course.

Also for the Canyon Medows crew, remember when that kid was stabbed and killed at the 7-11? Are you from the medows or the ghettos?

That used to be the main place people would meet up at the Stampede. For a couple of years after they tore it down, I still kept suggesting meeting up under the clock.

The OV sign was at the old Calgary Brewery, which was owned by Carling at the time. Molson bought out Carling in the late 80s/early 90s and took over the brewery for a while before they eventually closed it. I remember when you would drive down Blackfoot past the brewery, the whole area smelled kind of like baking bread, but a sickly sweet too.

Oddly enough, apparently, Molson resurrected the "Calgary Beer" brand a few years ago, but for some reason, only sell it in Saskatchewan.

I remember the old buffalo label from when I was a kid, but it was gone from the market by the time I started drinking.

Speaking of drinking, how about when all the liquor stores were run by the government, and had really restricted hours? That sucked.

Smoking everywhere. It really wasn't that long ago that it was assumed you could smoke anywhere as long as there wasn't a non-smoking sign.

I get a little sad anytime I go down 11th Avenue and see that Coconut Joe's is now a day care centre. What was the place on the corner of that block with the nasty-looking tub tarts in the window? City Limits? We were always too scared to go into that place.

A few years ago, Gowan was playing the Coke Stage during Stampede and there was an interview with him in one of the papers. He said that 20+ years later, every time he comes through Calgary, almost everyone he meets tells him about seeing him play at Calaway Park. He seemed baffled by the phenomenon.

Misty's was beside Dooey Stevens, wasn't it? "Doing it right, at Dooey Stevens tonight."

Also, Denny Andrews American Bar, which became the Back Alley, which amazingly is still around over 20 years later. Incredible longevity for a nightclub.

What was the name of the "all ages" night club that was in the same building as the Bonzaii waterslide entrance? They advertised a lot on AM106 at the time, and it was alcohol-free, so it would allow ages 13+ in. I never went there, but I remember kids who did saying it was full of creepy high school guys and older trying to pick up 13 and 14 year old Jr High girls.

Ah, the days of youth, when dating a girl who was 3 years younger than you would have seen you labeled a pervert.

My favorite part was the puzzle round at the end. And then when you go to play with all the toys!

Nope, the second phase of the Devonian Gardens rejuvenation was recently approved for funding by the City.
