I thought the window opens three days after we sign our last arbitration case (does the weekend count?) and is open for 48 hours. Well Rittich signed on July 27, 2019.

If I am not mistaken it closes today at 12 eastern.
I haven't done any research just off the top of my head

I think its open for another 24 hours. Be very interesting if they don't buy out Stone.

If they don't you'd have to assume treliving is confident of trading either stone, frolik or Brodie.

I wonder if ownership has “discouraged” Brad from buying out any more contracts that he was responsible for signing.

Neal? Clearly. Stone? Likely not a concern.

I honestly think the only way they buyout Stone is if they think Brodie/Frolik can't be moved.
Personally I think he stays around and moving Brodie/Frolik is still the priority.
If Stone is not bought out today then IMO it likely means they having something imminent brewing with those two.

I don't see Stone garnering much, if any, interest in the trade market. Blood clots are tough to recover from, and teams will be wary at that cap hit.

I totally agree. Why I made this thread was that no one was talking about the window and I had no idea when it expiries or even started. I'm worried that once it closes, then there is one less option for us going forward - but I do trust that Brad knows all his options better then we do and he also knows what other GM's are interested in and maybe there are some offers coming in and counter offers going out - we just don't know.

As per the buyout calculator they will be saving about 2.33 million the upcoming year if Stone is bought out.

Today is the last day Stone can be bought out. If they choose to follow that route, we'll hear news at 10:00 AM. Past that time, he remains a Flame.

I have no idea ... but I guess Pinder was saying the moratorium was business days, not any day, which would push the buyout window to Thu/Fri and not today.

Its very unclear, Boomer saying it closes today?
Now he has changed his mind. It opens tomorrow, closes Friday.

I don't believe that's true. When has any NHL rule ever depended on business days? Teams conduct business on weekends all the time.
I'll check the CBA.

Found this on Capfriendly:
Quote:
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.
Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award
Requirements:
A buyout can only be performed on a player who was on the clubs reserve list at 3:00pm on the most recent trade deadline
|
Three days. Nothing about business days. I'd be stunned if they didn't count weekends as "days."
I think the guys on the radio are wrong, but I'm not 100% certain.

I'll be sad if Stone is bought out. I know he's had blood clot issues. But didn't he play towards the end of the season (maybe I'm wrong)? Seemed like the issues were behind him.
I still think he's a useful option for many teams. RHD are always needed and are usually one of the most in-demand assets in the league. 2 years left at 3.5 for a middle 4D with a big shot isn't too bad.
I will honestly be shocked if there isn't much interest in him and it comes down to a buyout. I know many teams have cap issues and are looking to move players around. Stone being bought out is purely a business-move and nothing to do with his on-ice play. But someone, somewhere has to have a need for a D like him.
