Those look more yuppie than hipster. Looks like someone took over one of those cupcake stores that were all the rage and threw the leftover stock on some doughnuts.
I believe the hipster dessert trend has gone Cupcakes -> Cronuts -> Doughnuts.
I hope the next big thing is the Kouign-amman. I had one of these the other day with lemon curd and it was amazing.
EDIT: I bet in the parallel universe where Trump isn't president they have ice cream donuts at DQ...
Are you talking about just shaping ice cream into a donut shape? Or something like a cream puff? I have been lazy enough to eat cream puffs before letting them thaw, they aren't bad.
For something better, you could get the Donut Mill whipped cream filled donuts and put them in the freezer - kind of like an ice cream filled donut.
Maybe just donut shaped ice cream, I don't know. They have ice cream cake which is just ice cream in a cake shape, and ice cream cupcakes, the same. But it should be something more awesome. Better minds than mine must be assigned to the task!

I think I would have to go with an unfilled plain donut, filled with melted ice cream and then frozen. The trick would be getting the dough right so that it is still al dente when frozen. So, pretty much a nearly thawed cream puff.
I love Kouign-Amman. I've been seeing them pop up more frequently here in bakeries in Calgary.
I may however, have discovered the ultimate "doughnut" - a xuixo (shoe-shoe), from Girona, Spain. Viennoiserie dough (croissant/danish), filled with crema catalana (citrus-y creme brulee), deep fried and rolled in sugar. We left Girona three days ago and I'm going through withdrawal. I may be experimenting this weekend to try to recreate them back here in Calgary.
Doughnut is the dictionary spelling. Donut has been around a long time, but popularized by Dunkins.
So basically: cheap simple working class treats = donuts. Expensive OTT artisan hipster/yuppie treats = doughnuts.

That looks amazing! Time to google flights to Spain!
So all this doughnut talk tempted me into buying an expensive one today. I went with the Veruca Salt this time:
I found out they upped the price to $6.70 though!

7-11 whipped creme filled, when they are fresh, are pretty damn good.
I think Robin's used to call them "ghostbusters"

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I 'member. I 'member when Krispy Kreme came to down. Was not a fan. Call the following comment blasphemy if you will, but I found them too sweet. And having to wait in line for them, ridiculous.
At Tim's I'm a fan of the crueller and the glazed sour cream. But yeah I feel like their regular glazed is quite craptacular.
I haven't seen them recently, but the downtown Safeway used to stock chocolate glazed croissants at Safeway. *drool* Perhaps, such a thing of beauty shone too bright for this world.

.
You are not alone.
they were/are garbage.
Remember they had a 42' trailer parked on 8th ave giving away donuts.
Blech.

Reason: can't multitask
Krispy Kremes are okay if you get them fresh. They recently came out with a limited eddition Reese's Peanut Butter Cup one that used real Reese's peanut butter and was freaking amazing. After eating one I immediately went back and bought another.
