NYI is in first and Lee is hurt for the year. They are a good defensive team that could use someone like Johnny.
I’d love to get wahlstrom out of them. I’d trade Johnny straight up.

Monahan for Dvorak+ Hayton sounds tasty.
Monahan for Lundell feels like we still need a plus. Lundell looks like a great prospect, but Liiga is hardly a good barometer for NHL success (proof exists on our roster.) Monahan is a proven 30G scorer with multiple seasons left. Lundell + Saarela/Borgstrom/Heponiemi sounds more in the range. I would ask for Lundell + Tippett and work down.

I really like this trade idea, was hoping the Flames would grab him in the draft that year.

Fair, I don't think either hold a lot of value but could be wrong on Dvorak. The add to Dvorak to get Monahan would have to be better than Dvorak.

Technically he was taken the pick before ours, but IMO they may have gone with Dobson if they'd had only one pick there. Trading for Hamonic was a very, very dumb move.

I don't know if they'd go for that. Lundell (1) and Tippett (3) are Florida's top rated prospects according to Scott Wheeler. https://theathletic.com/2356890/2021...panthers-2021/
I'd love to bring in a kid like Lundell though. What about Lundell and Carter Verhaeghe who has finally broken out this year at 25 years old? https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/...php?pid=145093

I doubt you could get both.
Just a straight 1 for 1 trade would be good in my eyes.

Florida has to dump Connolly and his $3.5 million a year as well. Monohan for Lundell,
Connolly and another prospect/pick?

If the Flames are taking Connolly back, I think Tippett+ should be on the table as an add.

Florida would be crazy to give up Lundell. Denisenko or Tippett would make more sense, but only one of those.
They’d ask us to take back Stralman, so we need to find another deal with Gio.

Look at any other trade involving a player similar to Monahan in the last 20 years to see why you are wrong.
Lundell + is what Monahan is worth. Accepting any less is an absolute failure by management.

If we hold out for that price, Monahan will play out his contract with the Flames.

Yeah, Sakic holding out for a worse player in Duchene surely didnt work out at all.

Be Florida’s GM, would you trade Lundell, who has done nothing but up his trade stock since being drafted?
Makes zero sense for Florida.
Because Monahan’s deal extends after 2022 season, they could have potential trouble re-signing Barkov and/or Huberdeau. That’s a big no thanks from them. Imagine if Barkov walked because the Panthers are paying Monahan (and other factors).

Yeah no chance Florida gives up a high end prospect on an ELC in this current cap environment where cap space is gold. Especially now when Monahan has been in a downtrend.

Cannot qoute but if Florida is riding lightning and feels this is their best shot to go deep then this is the year to make an all in trade.

Player A: Age: 26 on the trade block. Former top 10 pick. Whole career with one team to this point. 2 years at ~6 mil remaining on contract. Centre.
Games Goals Assists Points +/-
586 178 250 428 -60
Player B: Age: 26 on the trade block. Former top 10 pick. Whole career with one team to this point. 2 years at ~6 mil remaining on contract. Centre.

572 201 230 431 -30
Duchene was worse, cost more relative to cap, and was actively pouting for a trade. He returned Ottawa's 2017 1st, Shane Bowers, a 2018 1st, a 2018 2nd, a 2018 3rd, Sam Girard (2016 2nd round pick) and Vlad Kamenev (2014 2nd).

Would you trade Zary, who has done nothing but raise his stock since being drafted, for Sam Reinhart?

Then trade him for a re-tool trade then.

Yup, prospects and picks are over valued in general. The small chance of them becoming elite blinds a lot of people

No doubt! That's precisely what's happening here. Lundell is fine but let's not pretend that Valimaki wasn't outproducing him in the same league only to come here and look like Dog crap. Sorry Vali but it's true.
