Meh. They get an American superstar that will definitely re sign. + Johnny and Monahan are vastly outproducing Zib and Kakko this season. Kakko looks extremely mediocre, who knows if he will reach his potential.
It's a dogs breakfast of a deal.

I don't think the Rangers really care about having an American superstar.

I lifted this from Reddit, and I think this is a good talking point and a good way to look at any potential Flames trades. We cannot trade any more futures.
Hell is coming. The cupboards are near bare, and will only be worse in the next few years. The following image captures picks made in the first two rounds in the last three drafts:
Given the Flames general lack of success, the fact that we've only drafted 3 times in the first 2 rounds in the last 3 years is unacceptable.
Why did we sacrifice the future for THIS team? That is absolutely baffling.

We as fans can think about how good Zary/Pelletier look for where we picked them...but assess the team outside of it's own bubble and against the rest of the league, and holy hell.
This team is in trouble.
All of the recent Stanley Cup Champions haven't recklessly spent future assets to the same degree as this team. We've leveraged the future to a level that is truly baffling, and have accomplished absolutely nothing.
This is a "slam on the brakes" moment for me. We NEED to recoup assets from Johnny and Sean. This team NEEDS to be re-tooled/rebuilt (whatever you want to call it) with a huge infusion of draft picks and prospects.

My pain with that is all draft capital was used yet we have a glaring hole if a top line/top 6 high skill player who is expected to provide consistent offense....

Hamonic trade was by far the worst Treliving trade and crippled this team - another 1st and two 2nds in the cupboard and we aren't looking so awful. Was just an absolute black hole in terms of puck metrics on the ice too and tanked every partner he played with.

That's actually shocking to see the Flames that low.
Teams like Montreal, Carolina, Philly, and Colorado for example have very good teams and also a stacked prospect pool. Why does this concept seem foreign to the Flames?
I still think the Flames need to retool on the fly and recoup any losses on prospects.

I have been keeping an eye on Zacha as I posted on here that if the Flames trade Gaudreau to the Devils they should take Zacha back and 2 firsts. I posted this before the 2020 draft. The devils had 7th pick and this year their pick could be top 10 as well even with Johnny in for Zacha.
It's still a small sample size for Zacha but he is having a break out year and I'm not sure who the Flames would have taken but there were guys like Holtz, Quinn, Rossi, Askarov and Perfetti to name a few guys
Zacha is also a 6 foot 3 220 pound center. Could have been s steal of a trade even for just the 1 first in 2020

A picture tells a thousand words. If we continue trading draft picks at this rate, with this team, the 7 year run in the 90s is going to look like the glory days.

Haha
Well at least Treliving has done a really good job when hiring coaches.

Someone the other day suggested our drafting was top 5 in the league. If we don't let go of the past and stop celebrating minor improvements when compared to our atrocious history we'll never be a legit contender.

Wow that graphic sums up how terribly shortsighted the Flames organization has been.

Its all the Canadian teams really. Enormous pressure to win year in and year out.
Unless you're the Sens where saving money was their Stanley Cup.

Yeah, and then look at the Flames vs. all the other Canadians teams in terms of on-ice success, and we're the worst outside of the Sens.
...except the Senators have won more playoff rounds than us in recent years as well.

Perhaps i am stubborn but I simply do not buy that argument. There are many teams in this league where fans will tune out if they are not a contender.
This is not true for Canadian teams.
