I don't think MacKinnon is a good comparison for Eichel (McDavid either). IMO, Eichel plays more like Draisaitl. Except Eichel is better. If Eichel and Draisaitl switched places, so that Eichel had McDavid taking the attention off his head, and Draisaitl were left to carry Buffalo around on his shoulders, I think Eichel would be talked about as one of the 3 or 4 best forwards in the game right now. (And Draisaitl's stock would take a hit)

Having said all that, trading for him would likely devastate the Flames' lineup.

It would probably cost something like Tkachuk + Lindholm, and that would really thin out the lines.

Even still ... I’d do that

I’d do it too.

And, um, did anyone else know that the 04 Flames almost won it all with three natural centres on the active roster? Because that’s incredible.

Pretty damn good? Has been a very good player at every level he's played at. 27 goals in 50 games for Frolunda. 30 goals in 66 AHL games for Rochester. 20 goals in his rookie season in Buffalo.

Yes, O'Reilly is an interesting case study. O'Reilly's career year prior to the move to Buffalo was 28 goals and 64 points, with an average year (discounting rookie and sophomore seasons of 26 points and his 2012-13 20 point season) being 58 points. Once he moved to Buffalo his goal production took a small drop from his career year, but was almost identical to his average in Colorado (21 goals) and points (58). When he went to St. Louis he had his career year of 28 goals and 77 points, but he's been between a 65-70 point player since that high. And all that took was going to a Stanley Cup winning team laden with talented players. His big jump wasn't that unexpected IMO, not when you have guys like Tarasenko, Schenn, Perron, Bozek, Schwartz, Pietrangelo, Parayko, Bouwmeester, and on and on. Could we expect the same result if Eichel came to Calgary, especially after having to off load the roster players needed to make the deal? Then again, the Sabres took a bag of crap for O'Reilly, so maybe the hit wouldn't be that bad... after the cap considerations are worked out. If we could get him for the equivalent of Backlund, Ryan, Pellettier/Zary, and a 1st, then more power to the Flames. But if the cost is Tkachuk, Monahan, a prospect, and a 1st, that's a big loss for the Flames and the talent isn't there to replicate the O'Reilly bounce.

Yes, but McHobo has ripped this league apart offensively. Eichel hasn't even been close. Jesus, he's 150+ points behind McHobo! And the talent level that Eichel has had to work with in Buffalo hasn't been that bad. Something is wrong there, no doubt, but Eichel should not be given a pass in that mess. He's supposedly some franchise player, well be one and make your team better.

Give Eichel a Draisaitl to ride shotgun with and he easily puts up > 100 points a season.

Pavel Zacha is having the kind of early break out year I think Bennett can have. Dude has really come into his own.

And it took a coaching change for him to get the opportunity he's getting now. Zacha is a year younger, but Bennett lost a year of development to shoulder surgery. I like that comparison and hope it works out the way I want it too. Still fully believe coaching ruined Bennett.

Two great players for an elite one. Sounds good.

The only other way to get a guy like Eichel is with the help of lottery balls

I was worried about making trades since you'd be without any if the players for 2 weeks but this season is gone.

If there's a good trade to be made now, just do it. In some ways it may be a better market to operate in because no one else is shopping.

If someone like Eichel gets traded in the off season there will be way more teams going after that deal; now would be the only chance for a team like Calgary.

Maybe Monahan + Tkachuk? Does that get you close to Eichel?

The American teams don’t have to quarantine acquired players for two weeks. So Treliving is hopefully getting something done to move players off of this roster.

Since the Avs series the only guy he has dealt is Neal. It’s absurd.

I don't think the Rangers can just add 7 mill to their cap like that.

But in terms of value, I've definitely seen worse.

You almost have to move Tkachuk, salary-wise. And they will want Monahan or Lindholm, and Lindholm has a better contract.
