Agreed. My point is that the current team and the best years of this iteration were still built on previous GMS. Treliving isn't a drafting wizard either.
Drafting under Tree has been lack of picks
They've done well with the picks they've had.

Yup. Really though, I can live with all but one trade of said picks. We all know which. The Hamilton trade was good, the exact kind 9f player you trade 1sts for.
The Elliott trade, Smith trade, Stone trade all made sense.
The Hamonic trade is the one that bites you in the behind.
At least Hamiltons departure recouped two core players.

I think Bennett just got a fresh start with the hiring of Darryl.
Fresh start is a bit of a stretch. He'll get another opportunity. He likely got another 10 game audition. The Flames have to make a decision on Bennett soon enough, and Sutter will make the call quickly. It won't take long for Sutter to realize what he's got. It's not like Sutter hasn't been watching hockey for the past three years and won't know what Sam Bennett is or is not. Bennett will have to come in and be "playoff Sam Bennett" for the foreseeable future, or he'll be gone quick enough. The constraints of Bennett's contract haven't changed. He still has to perform or he's gone.

I think everyone just got a fresh start.
I think new expectations are going to be set for every single player on the roster. I’m damn excited. I think there’s an opportunity that we’ll see the best versions of a number of our players. Whether it be Monahan, Andersson, Johnny, Elias or Benny.
This is the one coaching that was possible that could completely alter this team, and at a minimum it will weed out those that aren’t “in it” for the team.

Think what you want, but the business of hockey still moves forward regardless of who is coaching. The Flames still have to make a decision on Bennett moving forward. He is not worth another contract at his current level of play or production. A decision what to do with him will be made prior to the trade deadline. The Flames have 19 games before the TDL so Bennett has that many games to show he's a valuable commodity to the Flames or to another hockey team. Once again the onus is on him. Perform or GTFO.

I think Sutter is going to want to keep him at least for this season.
Whether Sam is a Flame or not past the offseason is a different story.
