I would have ridden this morning as it seemed nice, but life meant I was driving today as I had to get my son to hockey this morning

Yup, last week the early morning was noticeably busy on the Nose creek path. Today? Only about 3 bikes passed me heading south to downtown.

Used this crummy weather to put the bike on the trainer and get a FTP test done.
When I started on Zwift last year I was able to sustain 170 watts. Tonight I managed 259. I likely won't see improvements like that again but it was nice to see the regular riding is paying off.
If you're wondering what a FTP test, here's a decent explanation.
"Functional Threshold Power (FTP) represents your ability to sustain the highest possible power output over 45 to 60 minutes, depending on whether you’re a trained athlete or not. As a result 95% of the 20 minute average power is used to determine FTP."

So are you suggesting Bragg will be quiet after work on Monday?

Can't remember the last time I rode in the rain. I had the double headwind yesterday, but I was dry. It was kind of nice this morning. Wet, but a glorious tailwind. Quite refreshing, actually.
I did forget my show covers, though. Oops.

Took the touring bike this morning because it has fenders. How I got that thing up to 24kph average on my commute earlier this year is beyond me. I have become soft with the road bike. Holy crap, felt like I was hardly moving.
Gear wise however, I am pretty well prepared now. Good gloves and hat to keep me warm and dry for the most part.

I had my cool weather riding gear all laid out this morning, but then jammed when I noted it was raining - I refuse to leave the hosue on my bike when it is raining already.
wonder if bragg will be dry by Saturday morning?

The guys who made "Le Ride" have another cycling documentary coming out called MAMIL (Middle Aged Men In Lycra). My wife will be able to relate to it I'm sure.

Regarding rain and Bragg Creek, is it seriously frowned upon to ride trails in the rain/wet conditions? I enjoy being in nature in the rain and used to ride all over when it was wet. But I hear people get super uppity about it.
General guidelines for this? Stay off single track but paths are fair game etc?

Riding in the mud out there destroys the trails. Bragg is mostly dirt so it would definitely be frowned upon. If you like riding in wet conditions, head over to Big Elbow/Little elbow. It's more of a rock based trailhead and can handle wet weather riding.

the other guideline is to ride thru those wet low lying spots rather than ride around them and make the trail wider.
I was thinking that given it has been so dry here and the dirt in bragg has been like concrete; hopefully it will be dry sooner rather than later - although witht eh cool weather.....

Took part in the Baker Hughes Gran Fondo this morning. A near perfect morning for a ride in Bragg Creek/Priddis. Minimal wind and not too hot.
If they put it on again next year you should think about doing it.

funny how 6 degrees in the morning in july is hot and t-shirt weather versus 6 degrees this morning where it is cool and requires long sleeves. Came across a cyclist this morning (at a very bad spot) with limited lighting. We did not hit, but there was some ahrd braking involved. I made a mental note to myself to approach this spot differently in the dark.
over the weekend I was surfing the net and stumbled across these rear taillights and ordered one as it looked like a good idea:

Strobes on pathways are a no no, I wish more people would realize this.

I don't mind the more muted strobes (I have a small LED style one), but some of them are like being at a rave
