To be fair to Don, he was dead-on about Nikita Zaitsev.

Long time coming. Rogers has a lot of dead weight and hopefully this is the start of a true purge. Doug McLean makes sense too. But why are the still hanging on to Kypreos? That guy is just brutal. There has to be someone better.
I watch from time to time. He highlights things he finds interesting, and are often they are of value. He can also be bombastic, nationalistic and sometimes maudlin.
I don’t mind the bunch of jerks thing. The on screen Don Cherry persona should hold that opinion. It did a lot of good for the NHL and that market.
I like him. He gave some love to Gio. He was right.
Trudeau deserves a little more respect and Cherry deserves a lot less.
Really, really odd post. What black marks does Cherry have beside him outside of being very opinionated? Has he broken any laws or been shown to be corrupt? Has he ever tried to have a fellow Canadian unjustly imprisoned? Does he trot around pretending to be a feminist even though is actions prove otherwise? Trudeau absolutely does not deserve any respect as he's a prime example of the slimy and fake politician that has driven the masses to distrust politicians. And Cherry can actually put coherent sentences together in front of a microphone. Apparently that is no longer a prerequisite to being PM.

I wonder how much it costs for them to do Hometown Hockey, and what they bring in from it?
I feel Rogers should look into simplifying the production of their Sunday night games to keep their staff in studio like all the other nights. I don't get the sense that people care at all for Hometown Hockey, and they could save a decent amount of money from cutting the frills there that at least.
Rogers really bit off more then they could chew with the deal. Really wish that both TSN and Sportsnet could share the national package.
If they wanted a real breath of fresh air, they would have kept Leah Hextall. That's a segment I'd be sure to watch. Pen smacking, Oiler bashing, telling it like it is, Leah. No more piano hands, I want pen smacking.
The best Don Cherry related thing I've seen in the last decade was PK Subban impersonating him. Sorry, Don... You really need to pass the torch to someone with hockey takes from this millennium.

It will be interesting to see if anything changes. You have to assume Rogers will do whatever it takes to keep the Oilers and Canucks since their name is on the buildings. Will TSN try to get a regional deal here?

Interesting thanks. Would Rogers care too much about the naming issue if they are already cutting costs? Having TSN broadcast games from the Rogers Centre is basically free advertising on a competitor.
I have my fingers tightly crossed the Flames will be on TSN and will likely start freaking out if there are rumours of Rogers renewing.

Flames on TSN could be a win-lose scenario. I can put up with SN’s poor visual and production quality because of Ball-Hrudey. Who might TSN have for a Calgary broadcast crew?
1) I must say I am hurt and disappointed that my friend Steve Simmons would suggest in his Sunday column that Hockey Night in Canada might not want me back for next year. I was told a week after the playoffs I would be back.
2) The question I ask is this… why didn’t my friend Steve phone me and ask me?

Bring them over. SN is cutting people anyways to save a bunch of money. I'd love for TSN to take over our regional games. Better product over all. Add the Flames broadcast team and boom we gots a winner.

This upcoming season could very well spell the end for the HNIC imprint, as I can't see the CBC getting in on any bidding war for a broadcasting deal, given the current political climate.
Could the individual teams take their broadcasting in-house, providing feeds to the NHL Network? Are third party broadcasters even necessary any more?
