Default Sunny Rhodes Fundraiser @ Hexters JAN 30.

Blues legend Sunny Rhodes was at Gary Martin's jam yesterday. He is very ill and needs medical tests he cannot afford because he is an American and has no coverage. After an emotional speech from his wife, Sunny took the stage and performed like a maniac. It's something I will never ever forget.

Gary then announced that next Sunday (JAN 30th) the normal 3-6 jam has been extended an hour but as opposed to being an open jam there will be special guests.

There is a $2.00 minimum cover charge. I am not sure what else is going towards the cause, but I am most certain the bar is pitching in somehow as well.

On a normal Sunday the place is packed, week in and week out. It is also an incredible place to hang out because there is every single kind of person there. All ages, races, creeds, colors, income levels, and the cool thing is that everyone checks their "uniforms" at the door. You could start a conversation with anybody, even a complete stranger.

On top of all this, Gary Martin and The Heavenly Blues are simply an incredible band. They play Motown, Soul, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Disco, etc etc etc and do it better than anyone else in town. Bring your dancing shoes and come support this wonderful cause.

Hexter's (The Bowness Hotel), Sunday Jan 30th. Starts around 3pm.

Let's do this.

Good to know. I have seen Sonny Rhodes quite a few times and he always puts on a good show. Too bad he's in a rough spot.

Wow I'll definitely be there with a few friends. I recommend this to anyone as it's just like stepping back into Chicago 50 years ago. Both Sonny and Gary are legends of music, and were lucky to gave them in our city!

Any idea on his ailment?

I didn't catch it and then a couple people I asked didn't know. He looked ill though, until he hit the stage a ripped the roof off the place.
