Default 2019 Prototype/GT Racing

The 2019 racing season kicks off this Saturday with the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Qualifying starts tomorrow.

https://twitter.com/statuses/1088078361283493889

One of the story lines to watch is Alex Zanardi who lost both of his legs in 2001. But that hasn't stopped him. This will be his debut at the Rolex 24.

Forget the boys and take note of the all female racer line up Meyer Shank Racing is fielding in one of their Acuras. Christina Nielsen will join this team for this race.

Great thread! One of my dreams is to eventually get to Le Mans. I love racing and went through UofC FSAE team. We managed to get a few of us into racing (I worked in Quebec in the GrandAm series, just below Rolex). I only lasted 6months as I found out it was just a serious hobby. But another buddy kept going and is now the suspension lead for an F1 team.

I'll never forget that Zanardi crash (or Greg Moores). Just horrific.

I can sell my wife on a trip to France no problem, but she has no interest in the race. I want to go to Daytona next year; that might be an easier sell because she can go to the beach.

Kudos to your friend for sticking it out to be in F1. Have you read How to Build a Car by Adrian Newey? It is excellent. Newey designed many of the iconic race cars of the past several decades. He currently works for Red Bull Racing.

The first race of the weekend is the BMW Endurance Challenge. You can stream the race on IMSA.TV. The TCR class competes in this race and they can be fun to watch. You will see Civics, Audi R5s, Alfas, and Hyundais. It's a four hour race and starts at 1005 MST.
https://imsatv.imsa.com/

Here is a link to a spotter's guide:

http://www.spotterguides.com/portfolio/19_imsa/

The spotter's guide is quite beneficial if you plan to put a lot of time into these races.

The Rolex 24 is televised in Canada on Discovery Velocity. I usually subscribe to it for Le Mans and then cancel. But I see the channel is available to me now (free preview? I'll take it) so I have the PVR set.

Race start is 1235 MST.

If you don't have Velocity, try IMSA.TV, although it might be geo-blocked in Canada if Velocity is televising it. A VPN configured with a Euro proxy should work.

I haven't read, but thanks for the heads up! Will grab it this weekend. Newey is a god...and believe it or not there is a suspension guru in Calgary (Warren Rowley). He's an author and helped out numerous Champ Car / Indy teams and put guys into F1 as well.

I've got my wife sold on a France and Austria trip this summer. I get 2 Sundays at Paul Ricard and RBR ring to plan 🤗🤗. She gets the rest of the trip.

Few buddies went to le Mans. They said it was out of control madness. The racing and partying was off the charts. Apparently it's been really pulled back now but they loved it.

I'm hoping the ladies do well.

Katherine Legge never got a fair shake in single seaters. She has more talent in her pinky than Danica ever had.

Watched a little today. Was pretty competitive from what I saw. Mazda and Cadillac were going at it and the Porsches and Vettes.

Was so cool to see Zanardi back in the driver seat. His BMW had issues with the electrical connection since all his braking/accel are done in the steering wheel as well as shifting.

That Lexus looked impressive as well.

Actually. there is a lever Zanardi uses for braking. He can also downshift from the lever.

This Van Derek Zande vs Castroneves battle is fantastic.

The ladies are hanging out around 15th in class, they were on the lead lap for a while, but now they are a lap down.

Really really wish IMSA/ACO could sort their #### so there were three or four common classes. Sucks not having Toyota here.

Former F1 drivers top three right now. It's treacherous out there right now.

Yeah the rain is/was insane. I actually cant believe they kept racing. There on the 2nd red flag right now.

Alonso and Nasr had a good battle going. Alonso looks rather unhappy to continue racing.

Gonna be an expensive race after all the carnage so far (and more to come).

Loved Pfaff's livery this weekend. Bunch of the supporters and teams were wearing the matching Plaid shirts and jackets.

The big race this weekend is the 12 Hours of Bathurst. This is the biggest sports car race in Australia and features GT3 and GT4 cars. It's a scenic track and there is usually a lot of action with the GT3.

https://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/race-information/

The track:
Circuit Length: 6.213km
Length of Conrod Straight = 1.916km
Length of Mountain Straight = 1.111km
Highest Point: 862m above sea level
Grades of up to 1 in 6.13

https://www.mount-panorama.com.au/

Last year's smash-ups:

TV
No TV in Canada but a stream is available from here:
https://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/st...nal-streaming/

Green flag is 0545 Sunday (Aus EDT) which, I think, is 1145 Calgary time Saturday.

That was a great race. What a phenomenal charge by Matt Campbell to win the race for Porsche #912.
