No shocker, but Mariano goes in as the first unanimous Hall of Famer. Joining him are Roy Halladay, Mike Mussina and Edgar Martinez.

Anyone know who decides what team Doc represents in the hall?

Well the official tweet has him in Jays gear. Have to think he goes in with the Jays.

Awesome moment for me as a Jays fan, and heartbreaking at the same time because we all know how much this moment would have meant for Doc.

Is Edgar the first former Calgary Cannon to make the hall?

In the Brunt interview he was pretty clear that he was always a Blue Jay, even when he went to Philly.

I can't think of any. Tartabull became an all-star. Did Harold Reynolds play here? He won gold gloves and was an all-star.

yep reynolds definitely did play here

I guess Arod is the other HOF caliber talent that comes to mind

I remember being excited at the prospect of Ken Griffey JR but he skipped AAA

Omar Vizquel , Tino Martinez, Jay Buhner are amongst the other names I recall. and of course then there was the great Calgary Expo Andres Galarraga!

https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml...cap-hall-fame/

Roy Halladay’s family has requested the pitcher wear neither a Toronto Blue Jays or Philadelphia Phillies cap on his Cooperstown plaque, his wife, Brandy, announced on Wednesday.

Not sure how I feel about this. Hasn't Cooperstown made the decision for players in the past?

I believe cooperstown has final say. there were rumors that the Devils Rays were going to 'buy' Wade Boggs to wear their cap, before that players could decide. since then Cooperstown decides, often (coincidentally ) it has come down to players rumored not to want to wear a cap from a Canadian team (chiefly the Expos) as when they no longer existed it was thought that both Dawson and Carter would derive more benefit going forward wearing a cap of a surviving organization.

so I think the decision doesn't rest solely with the player although they would take a player's wishes into account. not sure what they would think about no cap. the plaques also I think indicate a 'primary team' (usually but not always the same as the cap team)

Kind of a strange request from the family since he made it very clear he was always a Jay at heart. Came back just to retire as a Jay. Pretty obvious what Doc would have wanted.

I am finding that decision to be realllllly annoying. They know him best I guess.

I know the family and him were upset at how he was treated when he was dealt. I think AA positioned it as Halladay wanted to go, or something to that effect and specifically Halladay's wife was sad that he said that. There was definitely that disconnect. Perhaps that stuck in her mind and for that I don't blame her if she felt her husband's reputation was tarnished just to help the clubs image. I'd have loved to see him be in the HOF as a Jay though.

Didn’t I just watch an interview yesterday where Doc said he was a Blue Jay at heart? Seemed to strongly suggest that he’d want to be a Jay in the Hall. This decision by his family is surprising and seems somewhat odd.

It is a weird decision, but put me in camp where I would rather see all players have no team on their cap. They are the best baseball players and the team is irrelevant. Blank caps to keep the ball player look and then nothing more.

I can only assume the family was very aware of how he felt about the two teams.

One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software

Everything Roy ever said about it publicly was that he wanted to go in as a Blue Jay.

The family made this decision for themselves. That's their right, of course, but it's a little insulting as a Blue Jays fan that the Hall decided not to override that request. At the same time, the fault really lies with the Hall itself and its continued decision to try and tie players to teams. It has never actually added anything of value to the induction or the plaque, while only creating strife in a small number of cases.
