Not only that but Kylington was clearly not the same player away from Tanev.

What a warrior, hope he didn’t do any long term damage coming back either. I have no idea how easy or hard a shoulder injury is to come back from

Some handsome posters speculated that he needed surgery but would still be able to play.

Incase anyone missed it Tanev is expected to miss camp and likely more due to Labrum surgery.

That's not good that he's going to miss time to start the season. He's clearly a very important piece on the back end.

At least it's not a surprise and Tre has all summer to bolster the D and cushion the loss....um, with all that available cap space lol

Mackey/Valimaki will have to step up big time with Tanev missing the start of the season. It will take him some time to get up to the game speed on top of that.

I like Tanev and we missed healthy him dearly, but if anybody deserves the C I think it's Backlund.

Disagree. I think Tanev is more fitting because he's a warrior and brings it every single game. That's the type of player you want to set the example. Backlund brings it sporadically as he's usually a no-show in the first half of the season and from playoff series to to playoff series can be really good (Oilers) or really bad (Avs).

I still can't believe we are operating in 2022 and people are praising players playing (and taking hits) with these kind of injuries.

No wonder Monahan is a broken 27 year old.

Let's call a spade a spade - this is an irresponsible organization. Would you trust your kids' future long-term health with the Flames medical staff?

If there is an issue it certainly isn't isolated to the Flames.
This is part of hockey culture.

But I'm not a doctor and I don't pretend to play one. if he could play without doing more damage then it's fine. Much different than someone playing with a concussion.

At the end of the day it comes down to the choice of the individual. Do you think Tanev wanted to sit out?

That's a pretty strong indictment of the medical staff.

Hopefully you have more than the alleged health of Sean Monahan to back that up.

It all comes down to (a) will he do more damage to the injury by playing and (b) is he more effective than a replacement, even with the injury. If the answer is (a) no and (b) yes, he should play. If not, then no.

Gonna change my handle to TanevforPM though.

Wasn’t it reported that Monahan is ahead of schedule?

Yes, but no need to do anything with him but be 100% sure (or trade him).

I believe they were expecting him to be good for the start of the season initially.

Monahan had surgery in the first week of April. Treliving says his recovery is 5-6 weeks ahead of where he was at last summer with his other hip surgery.

Says he’s going to start skating soon in the coming weeks.
I guess maybe not ahead of schedule. Just ahead of where he was last year.
