Double threads, so here is a glimpse of the other one:

I'll eat my pubes in Johnny re-signs in Calgary - I think a Cup run would've made a difference but it's same old same old Calgary Flames disappointment. I'm honestly more annoyed about this series then The Suns dick punching in Game 7 to the Mavs. WTF is up with Markstrom?

Pacific is too weak. We can't sink that low if we tried.

What about the Avs, Pens and Hawks?
They won't gut the team though, so this is a pointless discussion.

I'm not opposed to giving ourselves an outside chance in the lottery though. It's the perfect year. No better time for it. Could be the Stars aligning for a team thats never had a top 3 pick.
Maybe Darryl bows out.

Seriously, who will score for the Flames. Lindholm without his star wingers? Toffoli?

Tampa didn’t get Stamkos and Hedman for being good

The sad reality is that you pretty much need to get a few really high picks to build a strong team.
Yeah, sometimes it doesn’t work and you end up like Buffalo. But look at all the cup winners recently. Chicago had multiple top 3 picks, LA had Doughty, Pittsburgh had multiple top 3 picks, Tampa had multiple top 3 picks, the Avs have multiple top 3 picks, Washington has Ovi.
I fully concede that it’s not foolproof and it’s not the only way to do it, but let’s be real. It’s probably the best way to do it.

Between Darryl being the coach, no arena deal currently in place, and ownership not willing to take financial losses... it's extremely doubtful that there will be any tanking.

Some time you don’t need to tank. You just get there naturally

Even without Johnny & Chucky, the Flames will finish ahead of at least 6-7 teams basically by default. There will be virtually no way to out-tank those teams.

So, you're saying they better deal Markstrom, Lindholm, Tanev, and Mangiapanne too?

If they're tanking they should trade those guys. But the trade market does not seem strong at the moment. They could definitely have gotten a big return for Markstrom if they'd sold on him a few weeks ago when it looked like there were no good goalies available, not so sure at this point.

Bedard/Michkov are the only chance we’ve got to turn this franchise around in the next 5 years.
Everyone says don’t tank like the oilers but fail to acknowledge the fact Tampa and Colorado have both bottomed out for years within the last 5-10.
You have to suck and get lucky @ good draft years. It takes BOTH to get a franchise player.

No, I'm just saying taking isn't a realistic expectation, considering the current ownership of the team and their priorities. With no arena deal in place, if attendance slumps by a significant amount, it could put the future of NHL hockey in this city in jeopardy.
