Default Make Chris Tanev the Captain

If this series showed us anything it's that Tanev is a true leader. If he can still perform at that level with those injuries I don't think we have to worry about him becoming useless anytime soon. Defensively in the right position all the time with no shoulder.

Keep Backlund as an A after that performance and give one to Lindholm and Coleman.

Tanev would be a transitional captain.

I still believe if Tkachuk re-signs he should get it or Johnny if he wants it.

Tanev would be a great choice if this team goes to rebuild mode. Bscklund as well

If Tkachuk signs a long deal, he will be Captain. If not, Tanev is a good choice for a transitional Captain, but the danger is he isn't the same player after (what appears to be) a serious injury.

The complexion of this team could be totally different come September - so no need to make decisions now.

For me it's always been Backlund

Backlund for sure, Tanev and Johnny (if he stays) the A's.
Tkachuk isn't ready for a letter yet but hopefully he gets there (if he stays).

Tanev was almost the same player while playing through the injury. I’m confident he’ll be fine.

I think they held off giving out captain because Gaudreau or Tkachuk is the front runner, though. I assume they want to be sure they have the captain locked up long term before handing out the letter.

I want Tanev, Backlund, and Coleman leading this team. They are big game performers

Tanev hands down is the only person I'd want to see wearing the C.

Darryl said it perfectly....A's and C's are decoration. The leadership group of a team isn't always what you think it is . Behind closed doors certain guys have voices , out in public they are ambassadors for the game and pillars of the community , part of the alumni , etc etc

It's not even close when considering IMO who the captain would be in Tanev.

When he came here all you could hear was how upset the nucks were because of how great a loss it was for the team. Glad he's a flame....very glad because look at what he single handedly did for all his D partners in every situation.

Tanev had a separated shoulder, sprained neck and torn labrum as per fan 960

It would be pleasing if one was an American, one was a Canadian, and one was a Swede.
Which I believe has already been the case.

He's been an A since 2018/19

I don't think anyone on the roster deserves the C still. I feel that should be reserved for the player that is distinctly above everyone else in their terms of talent, and contribution; the face of the franchise.

I was hoping Tkachuk would define himself into that role this season, but he still has a lot of maturing to do to step up his play in the playoffs it appears. As well with the uncertainty of his future still, not sure you can give it to him.

Tried to find a threat to post this on and not sure if it gets brought up as I miss a lot of coverage.

By my calculations, I think the Flames are 9-4 this year when Tanev plays, and 0-3-2 when he was out. I don't think that is coincidence and he moves the needle by a goal or so by game, which makes a big difference this year.

I'd give him the C in a second.

Sutter won't name two captains, and since both Backlund and Tanev are effectively that, the captaincy will remain vacant until at least one of them is no longer on the team.

I think the best move with this group is no captain. There are a lot of veteran leaders. Doesn’t saddle one player with a bunch of extra responsibilities.

What’s the longest this team has gone without a captain?

Anyone else find it dumb that the COACH gets the say in the Captain?

Should 100% be a player decision.

It shouldn't be 100% player driven, they should have a say and so should the coach.

He might be able to see things from outside the player group, that the players themselves don't notice.

It least it’s not an ownership decision like in Oilerland.
