Default How do you game?

I love gaming, but I just don't seem to have time for it anymore. Yet, I see and hear people talking about trying all these games and I think, do they have a life outside of gaming?

I'm curious to see people's situations and how much they get to game.

1. Marital Status
2. Kids
3. Sports
4. Other Clubs
5. How much you game
6. How many different games you play in a year.
7. What platform(s) do you use?

Me:

1. Yes, 17 years.
2. Yes, 3. Ages 8-14.
3. Yes. Hockey once per week. All three kids play on Friday and Saturday in Rec Groups.
4. Church. I get involved in church committees. I've been free of that for a couple years now, but I'm getting drawn back in soon.
5. I don't get much time to game. Usually I find time during Christmas Holidays and Summer Holidays when we're at home. Maybe I get to play 3 hours after the wife and kids go to bed, and only a few times per year. I'm still working on Arkham Knight!
6. Two. I've been playing Arkham Knight for a few years and I'll play NHL each year. Once I'm done Arkham Knight I'll get into Spider-Man for PS4.
7. PS4 almost exclusively. I used to PC game, but that went away once my 2nd child was born.

In the nude mostly.

That answers the first 3 or 4 questions.

Varies quite a bit. Several hours per week on average. But when I game I usually binge, then won’t pick up a controller for a while.

New games or just different? Probably buy 3-5 per year. Rarely more, sometimes less. Play at least 5-10 per year if we’re including replaying games I already own, mainly due to sports games.

PS4 exclusively except my 360 which I use to play NCAA 2014 football.

Not married, no kids. I have a pretty active social life on the weekends, so most of my gaming is restricted to after I get home from work and the gym in the evening, so usually a couple of hours/night.

Age and how much you work would be good ones to count too.

I'm 27
Work about 300 hours a month
Social life pretty much limited to beers after work with the guys

1. Marital Status Widow
2. Kids Not anymore
3. Sports No, not in town enough
4. Other Clubs None
5. How much you game Maybe 1 hour a day if at work, easily 8+ on my days off
6. How many different games you play in a year. Hard to say since I always re-visit classics. but probably 30+. maybe 10 are new ones I buy
7. What platform(s) do you use? 95% PC, 5% PS4

It's easily my biggest hobby. I get between 4-6 days off a month, all in a row, so day one is running errands and catching up on stuff around the house, rest of those days are 70% gaming until I leave for work again.

7. What platform(s) do you use?
1. Single
2. None
3. None, I'd play senior hockey if I could though.
4. None
5. It varies, sometimes I put in an hour or two a night during the week and a few on the weekend and sometimes I don't game at all for a while.

Being a 3D artist I game a little different than the average person. I find myself stopping and studying certain objects to see how they were modeled and textured so I don't get through a game as quick as others may.

6. It's hard to say. Unless it's game I'm really into I have a bad habit of stopping to try other games and then getting hooked on them for a while.
7. PC, PS4, Xbox One

Probably 90-95% of it is PC with the other 5-10% being mostly PS4 when a new exclusive comes out. I only use my Xbox One now for EA Access and Xbox Game Pass when they have their $1 for a month deals.

Married
No kids
Beginner runner and have been golfing for a number of years. Nothing regular other than running atm.
Game probably an hour a night, more if I have something new to play. She goes to bed a couple hours before me most nights so have time to myself.
I don't think I'm as adventurous as others with exploring new titles. I like what I like, certain genres like zombie games I've always loved. L4D being my favourite. WWZ has been fun. Trying out Fornite. REALLY looking forward to RDR2 for PC. Love RTS but these are few and far between. I like simulators like Cities Skylines, even Gold Rush is fun for a while.
Strictly PC. Consoles aint my bag but am interested in picking up a Switch.

Age: 30
Work: Full-Time, 200-ish hours per month

Marital Status: Married, 6 years
Kids: 3 - Ages 4, 2, and 2 weeks
Sports: None
Other Clubs: None
How much you game: Probably 10-15 hours a week, depending. I work 4 on, 4 off with 12 hour shifts, so when I'm on my days on I don't get to play much at all. Sometimes I take my Switch to work and play on my lunch break if there's a game I'm in to at the time. Days off I play a bit in the mornings and a lot in the evenings after everyone is in bed.
How many different games you play in a year: Probably around 20 or so -- typically 1-2 a month. I don't necessarily finish all of them

What platform(s) do you use? - Primary is Nintendo Switch -- in fact the portability of it is what leads me to be able to play games as much as I do still, with a young family. I can play it while they're watching a movie on TV, or at work, or after I drop my oldest off at preschool head over to Tim Hortons for an hour. If it wasn't for Switch my gaming would likely be under 5 hours per week. I spend a bit of time with the TV platforms still (PS4/Xbox One) but that is often only later at night once everyone is bed. No PC gaming.

1. Single
2. No Kids
3. Gym
4. No Clubs
5. 2-3 Hrs per week
6. 3-5 Games per year
7. PS4 Pro

I go through cycles where I play more often and others where I don't play at all. Just depends on whats going on in life, how much something grabs my attention, and competing time for other entertainment like watching sports or TV series. I like single player games but only the few major critically acclaimed titles that seem like must plays, not much else. Recently got back into sports games (Pro Evolution Soccer) because I can play a quick game or two to unwind before bed. I never play online.

6. How many different games you play in a year. 2-3
7. What platform(s) do you use? PS4

Been mostly single the past couple years after over a decade of being in a relationship, my gaming amounts have completely skyrocketed since the split ha-ha...I love it! Even two years later the novelty of actually having a TV & console in my room I can pass out to in bed hasn't worn off yet. Its actually a shame, as one of my best friends was single for YEARS and always gamed, then less than 6 months after my split, he seems to have found his future wife - super happy for him, but the timing was unfortunate selfishly lol..that could've been sweet!

For whatever reason, I seem to be extremely choosy with my games and stick to the same 2-3 franchises. Currently on my 2nd play-through of AC: Odyssey, then am planning on doing a 2nd play-through of RDR2. I dislike online or multiplayer gaming and I can't handle FP games so it limits my options.

Outside of watching sports, I seem to default to gaming over watching an actual TV series or movie..gaming just seems to hold my attention longer. I find I get ADD watching a TV show, I just get restless and can't sit still after an ep or two. I don't have that problem with gaming.

1. Single

3. Skiing mostly (so very little gaming in the winter)
4. Board games (mostly in the non-ski season)
5. Very rarely but occasionally a lot in a short burst. Like, a couple hours at a time maybe once or twice a week, and then I'll binge a game and finish it in however long it takes. I did that with Outer Worlds last year and Horizon the year before. Normally this coincides with me being busy at work and wanting to spend whatever downtime I have not thinking about anything.
6. Maybe 4? 4-5? I might finish two. This year will be more though just because FF7 and Last of Us 2 are coming out and those are automatic play-to-the-ends. Also I'll probably play Spider Man at some point.
7. Up until recently, all PS4. I have an XbOne but don't ever use it for gaming. As of a couple of months ago I have a fairly capable laptop for games and a kickass monitor in my office, so if I'm at work and just killing time waiting for something I can get an hour in here or there doing that. I imagine I'll ignore next gen consoles for a year or two and just go all PC for a while - it's so much cheaper once you have the hardware investment done with.
