I would love to get a drone for photography/video, but just reading the rules on Government of Canada website (https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviati...y-legally.html) in addition to the ban in National Parks kind of defeats the whole purpose.
For people who have drones, where are you flying these things? Empty fields?

Nah. Too many of those are within the restricted radius of an unused helipad.

My cabin mostly now
It's not anywhere near as convenient as where I used to fly but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing. Love this hobby too much to not bother with it any more.
There are good places to fly, just need to find them. That's the tricky part unfortunately. But where there's a will, there's a way.
Would be nice if the city allowed mutirotor use in some parks. I get why they don't want people flying around in parks people use to go for walks and such but having one or two set aside for multirotor use would be awesome.

Its pretty much the wild west still out here in Iceland with drones, only a few major tourist sites have put up signs forbidding them, but at this point there are no laws on the books.

June 1 brought in the requirement for a licence and registration of each drone. Haven't done either yet as I noticed the city eased back on its ban and has allowed drones under 250 gr in green spaces around the city. So in that scenario, no licence or registration required. So I bought a Tiny Whoop type drone (98 gr) and finally bought a pair of FatShark Attitude v5 goggles. Man those things are awesome, very much a worthwhile purchase. I've had a ton of fun flying around smaller parks in my area as well as my office. Flying around the office is almost like playing a video game. Would be fun with more people I think.
I'll work on getting my licence over the winter so I can fly my larger drones but will keep practicing with the smaller one indoors. Keep the skills in shape for when summer comes back.

Wait, you're flying your drone inside your office?
Well ya, it's tiny. Like maybe the size of a sticky note? And my office is a hair under 5000 sq/ft so plenty of room. Heck, I even fly it in my living room at home. It weighs less than 100gr and has prop protectors.
Google Eachine UK65, you'll see what I'm getting at.
I've flown as large as a 180 quad in my office but that was getting hairy. Blowing papers off of desks, that wasn't overly wise. 250 class would be a total gong show, wouldn't even attempt that.
When dji and other companies started introducing drones weighing under 250grams to get around the UAV regulations transport canada decided that even toy sized drones would be in a new catagory "micro drones". They introduced regulations for those now as well.
