I've heard Okposo mentioned before. This is sort of interesting. He has 4 more years at 6 million. Basically identical to Neal with 4 more years at 5.75 million. That would be easy to equalize.
Bobby Ryan is interesting as well. He makes 7.25 million for the next 3 years.
This is likely the type of deal the Flames have to look at but I'm not sure teams even make these trades.
Neal has 8 pts this year. Ryan has 25 pts. Okposo has 17 pts. I'd probably trade Neal for either.

It concerns me that you think we have such an awful player that there is no chance anybody else wants him, even if we add a draft pick. Even I’m not that down on The guy.
|
Its a "boo boo" we can live with for now because the team is in first place and we sure as hell dont need to trade away assets to rid ourselves of his contrsct this early.
Flames can afford to be patient.

The Flames can afford to be patient with his contract, but I don't think they can afford to be patient with the role he's being asked to play that he just isn't succeeding at.

Those are interesting. Ryan saves you a year but he sure is expensive.
I'm positive nothing happens this year in any case.

Ryan definitely is expensive but his numbers aren't terrible. He's on pace for 51 pts this year. Basically costs 1.5 million more than Neal. So if you were to make that trade is the potential added production worth 1.5 million? This year definitely. Ryan also had 15 pts in 19 playoff games a couple years ago. The one less year is nice as well. The potential of that type of trade is kind of intriguing. I'm hoping for a compliance buyout though.

If Neal produces nothing in the playoffs and the Flames get eliminated in the first round, Treliving will probably explores some trade options for him.

With a different team, after Murray Edwards fires his ass.

Well if it's a sweep the firing might happen.

It’ll be a sprint to the fax machine for Lucic and Neal when the compliance buyout window opens for Seattle expansion.

I think you guys are out of touch with how successful this trade has been (Hamilton). Would ownership be disappointed if we got swept? Absolutely. Are they going to overlook that Brad has clearly done some amazing things with this roster and that we're now a top tier team for the next few seasons? Not likely.
Brad's only sword to fall on this season could be goaltending and that seems to be less and less shaky with each passing week. I'm starting to believe we legitimately found and developed a top ten starting goalie.

He's pretty close to guaranteeing a pass regardless of playoff performance at this point, imo. Don't get me wrong, if we get swept he's back on the hot seat for next season, but I'd be extremely surprised if a bad playoff round sent him packing this season after a CLEAR major step by this core.

Yeah the idea that Treliving could be fired after this year is frankly idiotic

Treliving has built one of the best Wendy's in the franchise system. The baconator, junior bacon cheese and Spicy chicken are some of the best tasting and high value items in all of fast food.
You don't then fire him because he spent too much on the frosty machine.

But the last manager he hired used to just stare at the floor when something went wrong...

It would take an epic collapse for Treliving’s job to be in jeopardy this season. But ultimately it’s not about good trades or bad UFA signings. It’s about results. And right now this team is getting them beyond any reasonable expectation.

If Neal finishes the season as a non factor, after having Murray agree to yet another buyout, it would not surprise me at all.
I'm well aware of the trade, read my posts in the trade thread, franchise defining.
If goaltending or lack of scoring depth causes the team to bounce in the first after a top 5 finish, heads will roll.
Murray wants to see the returns here. If he thinks he bought another brouwer, he'll want the salesman's job.
There's no burke anymore. Brad's bowl now.

Meh, I think this team's scoring depth is more than good enough, even without Neal.
I might take a look into how it's really stacking up.
