This has shades of Tony Fernandez and Fred McGriff for Joe Carter and Robbie Alomar to it.

What? Hanifin is outscoring Dougie by quite a bit, his defensive game is way better, he's younger and on a far better contract. I don't think there's a GM in this league besides Chia that would trade Hanifin for Hamilton one for one at this point, I'm not sure what extra value you'd like to see

You still don’t like the value? What is it that you don’t like about getting a 24 year old first line winger, right shot, defensively aware, every situation scoring st over a ppg makong $4.85M for the next 6 years? What about a 21 year old Dman on page for 41pts who also plays in all situations which includes the PK something that Hamilton did not do all while making $4.95M for the next 6 years?
What is it that you think Hamilton is of you do not like the value of Lindholm and Hanifin. Are you just trying to not admit you were completely wrong with your initial take?

Yeah if you go through the thread it reads like the GT from a Flames comeback win this season.
The start is cautiously optimistic but them after the full deal is announced things hit the fan and there are some crazy overreactions. Eventually everyone slowly comes around and we are super happy in the end though.
The craziest early posts were the ones getting angry at the trade when they thought it was only Hamilton for Lindholm and Ferland and then going off the rails after finding out Ferland and Fox were involved.

Does that mean Ferland is coming back for retirement stint later in his career?

Just because you didn’t understand the value at the time, doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.

Really curious what the Canes get for Ferland.
Lebrun says they are asking for a 1st + prospect right now, but with a seemingly buyer's market, do they get anything close to that?

At best they will get a conditional late first. The prospect will be "b" level at best
Still don't know what the canes were thinking of this trade? Tre even mentioned when Ferland was traded that he was going to get paid and they couldnt fit him in their budget. This should not have been news for the Canes.

I can’t see it there are way better rentals on the market.
Shaping up to be a great deadline potentially for the Flames. A 3rd rounder and maybe future 2nd might be able t get the team the forward and Dman they need.

I just can't see it
If that's the price they are asking they'd better be on top of market pricing because there are a lot of ferland comparables out there this year.

To be fair, I doubt even those who liked the deal at the time could have foreseen how it has turned out so far.

So much in this post that I don’t like.
First off, you should be praising GG because he helped Hamilton’s game a lot. His game on both ends of the ice has seemingly fallen off a cliff since leaving the Flames. I think I saw the other day that he was playing on the 3rd pair, that’s how bad he’s been.
Secondly, Lindholm and Hanifin’s performance this season has been spectacular relative to expectations. To the point where they’ve made this trade pretty lopsided looking. I’ve been quite critical of this organization’s pro scouts over the years, but this is a trade they’ve gotten right.
Carolina has a chance to salvage this trade depending on how Adam Fox turns out for them. But even then, Lindholm has arguably been this team’s MVP up front and is signed for a sweetheart of a deal. So there’s certainly a lot to like about this trade from the Flames side.

The Canes need to keep any forwards that can score. Not sure why they can't get a deal with Ferland given they have the most projected cap space of any team. Not exactly sure what their management is trying to accomplish but I wouldn't be impressed if I was a Hurricanes fan. It's projected to be a buyers market at the deadline so I don't know about being able to get a 1st round pick for Ferland.
