I love Ferland but he played his best (obviously) with 23 and 13. If he comes back as a rental hes playing with Janko or Ryan and I'm not sold he'd be that valuable in that scenario.

I’ve been saying this for almost two years. GG’s system was making TJ, and the whole team look bad. It constrained the creativity and speed of the entire team, making them look slower and less skilled than they are/were. It also made them extremely predictable and easy to defend against.
I don’t disagree that GG clearly didn’t utilize Brodie well, and stifled his game, that is clear now. But I think Brodie’s step up this year is even more than that, and is vastly under rated given the other amazing individual performances.
I’ll admit that I was not the biggest Brodie supporter the past few years, I would not have minded seeing him moved on before the start of this season. Even under Hartley wether playing with Gio or Engelland I felt the offensive side of his game was amazing but he was a disaster defensively making way too many critical errors ending up in our net. I thought back then most Flames fans were overlooking his flaws because of his flashy play.
But this season he’s been the complete package, back to his electric self, but so far super tight and consistent and effective on the defensive side. I don’t even care if some of it is a benefit of playing with Gio again, he’s playing some amazing hockey and exceed expectations of one of the key things (improving his play back to the Hartley days) tgat needed to happen for the Flames to take this step forward.
He went straight to Edmonton. He tarred and feathered himself.
I'm choosing to believe that he realized the only way he could redeem himself was to ruin our enemy, and sacrificed his career to help neuter McDavid's career.

He was very good on the top line, BUT
He also won us a playoff series on a line with Stajan and David Jones

Brodie also has had a couple hard years with his wife's condition. Can't discount that distraction from keeping him from the top of his game.

It is crazy how much Hamonic turned his game around.
He's been amazing and really helps Hanifin settle in and play a strong puck moving game.
This trade is working out incredibly well.
I thought Hamonic began playing well in the second half of the season last year, in fact. I agree that he's perfect for Hanifin (frankly, on paper he and Brodie should have worked too, but maybe Brodie was a little too unconventional, or couldn't adjust himself - whatever).
