There’s a good chance they would’ve taken Juolevi and the Canucks would’ve been choosing between Tkachuk and Dubois.
But now, our 2 rivals got the 2 worst players in the top 6. I actually think Tkachuk is closer to the Laine / Matthews level than most think.

Bless those BJs.
Not like the oilers did any investigating themselves to see what Kek did, of course. They were so enamored with the hype around the kid and pranced up to the draft stage without a second thought.
Incredible how they ####ed up that and the Yakupov picks. Most teams get those draft spots once in a quarter century and the oilers piss multiple great picks away in a few short years and squander what tools the kids had with no development plan because they're the most incompetently run nhl club to ever exist. Okay, outside of maybe the Thrashers.

I somewhat remember watching the negotiations on the draft floor at that time. It seemed like Treliving was trying to get the #3 pick but CLB didn't want to move down that far. It then looked like he was trying to swap picks with EDM, my guess was that he could then do a deal with CLB to swap the #4 for #3, made sense because the greasers were rumoured to be wanting Sergachev. Once all of them got involved in the talks Chiapet walked away, the assumption was that once he knew JP was going to drop to #4 he lost interest in trading down. Happy with the way things turned out but I doubt Trelving was trying to trade up to #3 to get Tkachuk.

Turtled against Kassian (with good reason), but the guy just simply draws penalties for us.

Exactly the 2 idiot Greaser fans sitting next to me were yipping about that I was like why would Tkachuk want to fight a nobody goon like Kassian who loves to scrap.
Tkachuk is one of the leading scorers on the team he didnt get drafted early in the first to fight bums like Kassian.
I don't fault Chucky at all for turtling because Kassian was there for one reason to hurt the kid.

Tkachuk has more points this year than Kassian will probably score in the remainder of his career.
Tkachuk's too smart to fight a plug like him.

Both Kassian and Tkachuk have hockey IQ that is off the charts.
But at opposite ends of the chart.

Just looking at the box score and very impressed with Peters' utilization. No one has too much and the right players got ice time. There's a reason the Flames have been so good in the third.
Peters uses his depth appropriately.

I'm thinking it's not just hockey IQ for Kassian that's nowhere to be found.

Tkachuk got hurt last season and I believe that's one of the reasons he protects his head. He had no helmet on and wasn't going to let himself get injured,

Chucky also mentioned today that he had just returned from sitting out for 10 minutes due to concussion protocol and at that moment, needed to get back into the game instead of sitting for another 5 minutes.

Chucky is a Marchant 2.0 Upgrade .... Ver 2.0 get the points, draw the penalties, tick the other team and their fans off, but doesnt come with the kissing and other crap.

If you meant Marchand, Tkachuk is not an upgrade as of now. He could be down the road.

Chucky will never have Marchand's wheels. But he may be way cleverer.

Francis this morning saying Tkachuk should have grabbed Kassian, not fight him, but not turtled. Are you kidding me? That's one sucker punch away from Tkachuk being out for months needlessly. All to please some stupid bravado code? No thanks.

A co-worker is a big time Kings fan, and he is triggered by everything that Tkachuk does. He is a very reasonable hockey fan otherwise, but every time MT steps on the ice he is hoping for an injury because of his playstyle. It’s baffling how someone can think that way. He was hoping Kassian was going to mash his face in, and was completely incensed by the “head wag” as he was skating to the bench. I ridiculed him for letting Matt live rent free in his head. He shook his head and muttered something about Jake Muzzin and walked away.

LOL Francis, 'cause that's what you'd have done, right?
