Maybe Gio could use the rest to gear up for the stretch run and playoffs.

I'd rather it be Monahan or Tkachuk.

Strategically we should vote in Timo Meier.

While the Shark fans will probably be voting in Logan Couture, Meier isn't a bad choice for them with 35 points in 38 games. With Sharks and Flames voting for him, it's a potential he wins it over someone like Draisaitl.

Why do we want Meier? With 55M spent already on 12 players next year, the Sharks still need to try and re-sign Pavelski, Karlsson, Meier and Thornton among many others.

Meier is on his ELC and has $850,000 in potential bonuses. An All-Star game appearance could form part of his Schedule "A" bonus structure. The Sharks are near the cap. Meier making the All-Star game could cause cap issues for the Sharks next year, even if slightly, when they are already in trouble to re-sign everyone.

Imagine if they were unable to re-sign Karlsson because they got four players to the All-Star game. Ha.

Monahan, we don’t want to give any more reasons for Tkachuks agent to ask for more money this offseason.

I'd like to see Monahan rewarded. He deserves that kind of accolade with all the underrating that happens with him.

On the other hand, imagine Tkachuk and Doughty on the same team.

looking at the site, it seems like the choices for the Last Man Standing are already locked into 31 players and you can only choose from that list.

no more write in candidates as a result of the John Scott year i am guessing

It’s probably a great honour (maybe even a nice bonus payout) for any player to get selected. I bet they would love to go. Being too taxing is pretty ridiculous

I think we should make a Ryan Stiles of it instead... maybe a Wayne Brady.

Edit: beaten to it.

It's always been a joke. This is not new.

But who cares? It's not meant to be serious. It's meant to be a fun weekend for the host city and the families of the players invited.

Sounds like there will be a new banner in the Rogers arena rafters.

Yeah but realistically there should be two Oilers. How the heck is Draisaitl not already in the game? Dude's 8th in the NHL in scoring.

I would expect for the same reason Monahan (only one point behind Draisaitl) is not.

Marner and Point were also left off. Four of the top ten scorers didn't make the team (yet).

... Because two defensemen from the Sharks wasn't enough and they felt as though they also had to include Joe Pavelski for some reason?

And yeah Point should be there before Stamkos, sure, but Stamkos is still over a PPG and is a legitimate superstar, so it's hard to say who you'd take off in favour of those guys. Maybe you'd send Marner instead of Tavares, but... same exact issue.

So if you know the answer why ask the question?

Perhaps I should have taken my own advice just now.
