Rinne, Rinne, Rinne
On the first day of Free Agency the Carolina Hurricanes handed out a 3-year 30 million contract to the 36 year-old allstar goaltender
Pekka Rinne. The move comes shocking to the Caniacs as the Hurricanes already have a league leading goaltending duo of
Darcy Kuemper and
Mike Smith. With the opportunity to lock up the CPHL best goalie long term was just too good of an gift for the organization to pass up. "As strong as our goal tending is" commented Canes GM Hanna Sniper "we simple don't have anyone locked up beyond this season. With the amount of money we have been talking with their agents to re-sign, we simply were talking Rinne type dollars, if we were going to pay a goalie Rinne type dollars then it made sense that it be the man himself. Its a matter of biting the bullet this season to ensure we place ourselves in the best possible position beyond this season".
In a later move the Hurricanes solidified the already stacked position by also locking up
Corey Crawford and giving him the chance to rebound this year and fight for a back-up role behind Rinne for next year.
