Both teams scared me, but the Stars just a little less so.

Fine with this

Ideal situation.

It also means that if the Flames can beat the Stars they will likely avoid Colorado in round two. Only way that it could happen is for vegas and colorado to win and vancouver to upset the blues.

Soon.

They probably won't announce the first round schedule until the Leafs-Jackets game is over.

Game 1 will be either Tuesday or Wednesday most likely.

Flames can't afford to look past Dallas. This could be a really quick series if they underestimate them. Sure you could say Dallas doesn't really fit in with the rest of the "top four" in the West, but Calgary has run into big trouble in the past against Benn, Seguin, Radulov, Pavelski, Bishop, and Perry. This is going to be a tough test.

I like the chances of the Flames depth getting us over the hump this round. Dallas could be tough but they are just as un-proven in the playoffs as the Flames.

I don't see why there's any reason why the Flames would overlook an opponent that is higher ranked and had a better season than them.

The Flames and Avs can't meet in the second round.

Assuming both teams win their first round series: If Vegas wins, the second round will be Vegas (1) - Calgary (6) and Colorado (2) - STL(4)/VAN(5). If Chicago wins, the second round will be Colorado (2) - Chicago (8) and STL(4)/VAN(5) - Calgary (6).

Because the alternative would have been to play St Louis, the defending Cup champs and a team with a lot more points and a way better record in the regular season against Calgary.

Dallas had only 37 wins this year. Calgary had 36 and won the season series against the Stars. They can't afford to sleepwalk through this series like they did against Colorado.

The Stars have scored a total of 7 goals in their 7 games played since March 1st. 3 of those goals came in one game.

Why would the Flames look past or underestimate Dallas?
It will be a tough series, much depends on our third line.

If they go into the playoffs overlooking any team after the Colorado fiasco last year that would be awful and show the team learned nothing.

I get that the Flames players probably believe they get a slightly more ideal matchup playing the Stars over the Blues but I doubt any team that is going into a series as a betting underdog is overlooking a team that had a better regular season.

So it’s not a set bracket going forward?

It feels like the 6th seed and the Flames go well together.

It’s reseeded every round. It’s not possible for Colorado and Calgary to play til conference finals.

I think the Flames come into this feeling a little too cocksure and don’t take guys like Benn and Seguin seriously. Dallas has a lot of sneaky weapons that I see poking holes in our defence, and while Hellebuck was outstanding this year the Jets were too thin to overcome the Flames, Bishop just has to be a blocking goalie.

Stars in 5 or 6

I would hope they learned their lesson. Seems like the leadership group and coaches will not let that happen. Stay focused on the task at hand. One gam, one period, one shift at a time. Perhaps it helps having Ward and Lucic as two of the more vocal people (compared to last year).

You can’t manufacture, practice, or buy that kind of experience. You earn it.

Rest of the group only has to look to last year, or to some of the play in round series to know they have to be focused.
