Is it not a massive failure of the telecom companies that this isn't easily stopped? Can anyone explain to me like I'm 5 why nothing has been done to stop spam calls especially spoofing from known phone numbers.

Generally done from out of the country, not much they can do about it
Koodo call control works fantastic for me, haven't had a single spam call since I enabled it

Of course they can do something about it.
But the average IT worker doesn't have the skill to do it.
Certainly not the ones that work at telecoms.

I have 2 coworkers who always have their ringers on and answer every single call, minimum 2 times a day each. Incredibly annoying, I just recently convinced them to start ignoring them but the ringers are still going off at full volume.

i had 2 calls yesterday, one from Winnipeg, and one from Bonnyville. I googled the phone numbers, and i think these are spam calls from the trucker protests?

You really need to see if your cell provider has spam protection. Since I activated mine with Telus a year ago, I've had zero.

On the iPhone, turn on 'Silence Unknown Callers'. in your Settings -> Phone. Silences unknown numbers, but does let your contacts and recent calls and Siri suggestions get through.
Even then, I just don't answer my phone haha. I just Tyler Durden that #### and call someone back if it's important. You're not legally obligated to answer your phone anyways, so I don't. It's been amazing.

the calls to our land line had died down, after christmas until last week.
lots of calls aabout my social security number being suspended, mary or daniel from amazon noting some apple products ahve been ordered and sara from discover mastercard and amy from some medical related thing that applies tot eh US.
why doesn't shaw get the same software as telus that forces you to dial a random number to complete the call......

I've gotten a couple this morning on my cel that purport to be from Ontario and the language is definitely not English. I didn't answer them but they always left a message. I blocked them and reported as spam so maybe I won't get any more

Just wondering since we can't stop spam callers, why do they not call at like 2am or 3am? Nothing stopping them from doing that.

So annoying.

I find that if I wait 4-5 seconds to say hello when I answer, it fools the auto-connect into thinking its a machine and then it just hangs up.

I tell them to suck my D$ck and to get a real job. Most just hang up but a few chirp back. I enjoy it.
