Default Tentative Agreement Reached! New Arena!

Quote:
A negotiating team for the city is close to reaching a deal with the Calgary Flames on building a new arena to replace the NHL team's aging home rink, a council member says.

oun. Ward Sutherland told CBC News there is a proposal ready to present to city council on Monday.

"It's not a deal at this particular point, there's still lots of steps to go through. It's really a proposal and we'll be giving an update," Sutherland said.

"Negotiations, as we mentioned a few weeks ago, had been ongoing. It's a multi-party deal, so it's very complex. It deals with the Stampede board, the Flames organization, CMLC [Calgary Municipal Land Corporation] and also the city.".

Gonna be a tough sell to the general public considering the city just axed $60m from their budget this week. Terrible timing optically....but fingers crossed.

Don't mess up the design, this is a major worry for me. Hope we're more Calgary Library then Edmonton library here.

After years of hype and close shaves... well, it's hard to comprehend that it might actually be happening.

Agree with Rando -- this thing better look amazing. Maybe not as distinctive as the Saddledome, but just gorgeous inside and out.

I don't care what the outside of the building looks like, just make sure to design good washroom and concession facilities!

Funny you mention this. In my time in Australia I went to a few venues where they didnt have urinals but a glass one way wall with a trough. You could literally pee on the glass wall while looking in to the venue. It was super funny in some restaurants where they had tables directly against the other side of the glass!

I'm all for a deal, but it's hilarious that some people in Calgary are getting upset about the "cost" of a crosswalk permanently painted with Pride colors

I wonder if they'll support even an iota of City funds toward this project.

https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...-for-new-arena

Quote:
City council members will discuss the proposed agreement at 3:45 p.m. Monday behind closed doors, Postmedia has learned.

The city’s negotiating team includes acting city manager Glenda Cole, Barry Munro with Ernst & Young and Michael Brown with the Calgary Municipal Land Corp. (CMLC). The group has met regularly with Calgary Sport and Entertainment Corp. for the past three months.

Cole told council members previously that any deal reached with the Flames will be made public.

A new arena is projected to cost between $550 million and $600 million, according to estimates provided by CMLC. The projections are based on an 18,000-seat arena with retail space, a community rink and 40,000 square feet of underground parking.

Council will be discussing the deal on the first day of what is expected to be at least a two-day council meeting where elected officials are expected to vote on a $60-million cut to municipal budgets.

Rainbow/colorful crosswalks are a funny thing. I like them and what not, but they are not good bang for the buck. We had them done in Victoria 2 years ago. In general tho they are a huge waste of money and look below avg after a year or so. Tire marks/fading and road grime seem to take the life out of the paint fairly quickly.

Its a joke, I think that rendering is nearly a decade old and it was a joke then.
