Realistic expectations for Curtis Lazar?
This guy feels really underrated here, with most lineup predictions penciling him in on the 4th line or as the 13th forward.
I see a lot of potential upside though. Wouldn't shock me in the slightest to see him as a 1st liner. What are realistic expectations for him this year?
10 goals? 25 points?
Or do you see him breaking out in a bigger way? 20 goals? 50 points?
The team gave up a lot to get him and obviously see something there, protecting him in the expansion draft. What do you think they are Hoping to see from him this year?
I believe he's either going to be directly tied to the success/failure of Bennett this year, or nestled in right in Backlund's wing. I don't see him in any way as a 4th liner, and I'd think the team would agree.

I think realistic expectations should be about 5-10 goals and maybe 20 points, while providing good penalty killing

That he makes the opening day roster.
Edit: Flash and I injured bystanders rushing to make the same joke.

It really depends whether Jagr signs here. If Jagr doesn't, then Lazar and Janko/Brouwer battle for a 3rd line spot. If we sign Jagr, Lazar competes with Janko/Brouwer/Stajan for 4th line spots. As the season progresses, we have injuries and he likely plays top 9 minutes. Who knows, he could be with Johnny and Mony at some point. I really see Lazar and Janko as the 2 guys who we can put on any line and they have potential to score there.

Well, I'm thinking 1300 points or something along those lines.
Too soon?

I think it depends on the version of Lazar we see this year and the version of Brouwer. I can see an improved version of Lazar taking a lot of ice time from a mediocre Brouwer.

18 points assuming he plays the full season.
I just based it on his career average over 82 games.

Yeah, if you're looking for realistic expectations for a guy coming off a 1 goal/4 point campaign then you should start with just proving himself able to draw into the line-up on the reg. As far as points go... Stajan got 23 and Bouma got 7 so bridge the divide and call it 15-ish.

Some good Conroyesque quotable would be nice.
Good attitude and hard to play against with his confidence being rebuilt throughout the season and he finishes strong. No point or goal expectations yet but obviously he needs to produce to stay in the lineup

depends on his role (Top 9 VS 4th Line). Tough to know until after camp ends.

Expectation: Be a regular NHLer
Realistic Hope: Score 20 points, play responsible hockey
Perfect world Hope: 20-20-40 guy who's a staple on the PK.

I've thought that Lazar was acquired to pair up with Bennett but things can change if we sign a player such as Jagr. I'll wait to see how he's used to make any expectations for him.

Would so love to see a lazar-bennett-tkachuk line, even if just for the pre-season. Talk about a gritty s**t disturber line that can score. Before I get run out of town for breaking up 3M, you purists could swap in Hathaway for Matty and come out with the same snarl, but not the same scoring potential.
I also think that Lazar is going to surprise alot of people with his output. I don't think Senators trap style game suited him at all. I'll go and say 18-26-44 for Lazar this year, with lots of time on the PK and some time on PP2 as the year progresses and injuries cause some shuffling.

This is purely speculation on my part, but I think when Treliving acquired Lazar, his long-term vision was to have him play RW with Mony and Johnny.
If he can reach his junior potential he would be quite a good fit there.
In post-trade interview Tre said that he'd be happy with Lazar becoming top 6 material (paraphrasing), but I think his ultimate intention is to give the top line its right shot RW down the road.
The Flames are much better at managing fan expectations since Feaster days and I think that quote from Treliving is another example of that.
So my realistic expectation is that he produces 20-35 points this year, depending on the ice time he gets.

All things remaining equal: 40 GP, 7-10 goals, 15-20 points.
