Default Vehicle insurance - how long to claim?

The driver of a company vehicle hit my car with its door while I was in it, causing enough damage that I'm going to get it fixed. Under $2k.

A supervisor came to site, saying they would rather pay out of pocket instead of going through insurance and I was cool with that. I have all interactions on video and acquired 2 estimates but have been ghosted since.

My question is, if they do not follow through with their promise, how long do I have to make a claim through their insurance?

Google says 30 days but I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly.

Just go through insurance. It’s why you have insurance. What benefit are you gaining by helping this person who has now ghosted you out?

I had thought mine was 14 but took a Quick Look through my insurance docs and couldn’t see anything referenced.

If you make a claim, their insurance should still give the option to buy out your claim and make an actual insurance claim.

Also, where is the damage on your vehicle? If it's on any panel but the rear and front quarter panels expect a lot more then $2k.

Contact your insurance asking if the other guy has filed yet. Say, "Oops I didn't realize I had to file too" and send the info.

Yeah it’s two years, and if they don’t act I’d just go through insurance and let them handle it.

I’ll never understand why people don’t just automatically go through insurance. This whole song and dance with people who damage your car is bizarre.

Best case scenario, you do a whole bunch of extra work for the same outcome and no gain.

I learned the hard way to not even give someone the chance.

Had someone hit my parked car while I wasn't around. Thankfully people saw it and got his information for me. Called him and he said he didn't see any damage. He damaged my driver door subtly but you could clearly see it at an angle. Took some pictures and he said he still couldn't see it. I told him it's probably about $500 in damages if he wants to pay out of pocket. It was an older car so didn't really care that much. He told me get an estimate because it didn't look like $500 in damages so I told him to send his insurance information. He started haggling about the $500 but I wasn't interested anymore. Went through insurance and got paid out $1400. Tried to save him a claim and was pretty much called a liar.

I'll never again try to be a nice guy if someone hits my car.

Believe me when I say, the number of times I've heard "can we pay for this outside insurance" and actually follow through on it? Like 1 in 100. Possibly more.

They make you run around and get estimates then ghost you?

Take it to your insurance company.

Also are you sure you are feeling ok……sometimes an injury isn’t immediately noticeable

We should have a more European attitude towards car damage.

I was in Paris and the Arc de Triomphe roundabout is basically just 'Bumper Cars' for adults.

Rude gestures are exchanged over wine and croissants and then everyone just goes back to getting about their day.

I'm all for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but if they're not extremely quick in getting back to you with money once a quote is sent, then immediately file a claim. A month, 2 years, screw that. 2 days max

I can’t believe you would get 2 quotes. People are crazy.

I’d be calling insurance right away. But if I didn’t you’re paying at my shop of choice.

Yeah, getting 2 quotes and getting ghosted is the sort of thing that causes soft tissue damage and requires a few massages.
