Tavares is great and will elevate the Leafs IMO. I don't have cable and listen to the radio for Calgary and Edmonton mainly, so I don't really see all the hype coming out of TO. I think it will be neat to see some Canadian teams do well (only those who live east of us).
I wouldn't mind seeing the Flames and Leafs in a SC final for sure. It is too bad the Habs and Sens are such a disaster and have no chance of the playoffs this year. Who out west will be as good as the leafs? Flames and Jets are the only two I can see that happening with. So far, Tavares has looked good in a leafs jersey.

How has Tavares looked good in a Leafs jersey? Like in photos? They haven't played a game yet.
I'm sure he will continue to be a good player but better than Bozak, JVR, Nylander (or whomever they lose for salary reasons) combined. 11M is a ton of cash

I don't know, looking at the offensive talent on that team, it's entirely possible that Tavares will have a season like that should he stay healthy.
Now the problem is defensemen and team defense. They may not win enough unless they fix that.

BTW, Aleksander Barkov was named team captain today for the Panthers, ending the reign of Derek McKenzie.
This ends a recent trend of the Panthers captain being a low talent, grinder-type player:
McKenzie for the last 2 years
Willie Mitchell for 2 year
Ed Jovanovski for 2 years at the end of his career

JT better be around 100 points for 11M...that is just barely earning the contract. 5.5 for every 50 points is nothing to write home about really

To be fair, the most talented forward the Panthers iced in that game was Jared McCann. 2nd most talented was probably Brouwer. It was a brutal roster offensively, and they were facing Saros.

That's the funny part. They talk like they only added, when they subtracted a good amount of scoring before bringing him in.
Overall they added strength up the middle but in terms of production they might even be a touch worse. Still a good offensive team but Tavares doesn't plug holes on defence.
Well see how amazing it all looks when JT is putting up 75-85 points for 11M while the team is still suspect defensively.
